New to PVE Ranger

Anet cares a lot about PVP despite what you think. They have largely in the past year only balanced around PVP. They care very much about turning it in an eSport. Although I think that is a failed endeavor they are trying regardless… it will stay thay way until they get away from the point-capture system. That’s my opinion.
Go with Brazil’s DPS build and that’ll pretty much be it. I’ve used it, IMO, it’s pretty kitten good. I do though like to run my traits a little bit different but pretty close.

My friend told me that Ranger is useless and no one likes them and no one wants them because they are pulling aggro all time in dungeons with their ‘stupid’ pets. Is it true?
They care about PVP but pace of changes is too slow. Many of my friends have left GW2. Most of them sold Guild Wars 2. The biggest forum about Guild Wars 2 in my country is dead so please don’t tell me #$#$, ok?

In PVE they are just as viable as any other class depsite the ‘stupid’ pet. Aggro is based on toughness so if you build a ranger with a lot of toughness, then yeah, you’re going to pull aggro. Honestly though, that’s more of a L2P issue than anything as it is now easy to avoid pulling since the pets no longer pull aggro unless the Ranger has first.
Honestly, I personally find the Ranger to most fun to play. I have fully geared thief, warrior, guard, and mes all lvl 80, and they are ok to play, but I find the Ranger most fun to play, especially with sword+horn/SB, jungle stalker/red moa.

Ranger in PVE is a pretty good class if played to its full potential, that is in melee range (remember that direct damage is better than ranged damage) with sword/warhorn as your main weapons and also bringing spotter and frost spirit just like the guide mentioned above shows. Bear in mind that sword’s animations are a bit weird and it will take time to get used to them.
However this scenario couldn’t be further from reality. The majority of the rangers don’t go melee and instead they stay at max range sitting comfortably on their healing springs while not giving any buffs to their team mates nor receiving any from them. Their damage doesn’t cleave (unless traited) and is not as good as if they were in melee range. Also they can’t res their party members fast if needed be.
On top of that the pet AI is a bit messy and unresponsive. Pets can lure undesirable aggro and if they die you lose a chunk of your damage. Luckily you can mitigate this to some extent with practice and experience.
In a nutshell, don’t be afraid and go melee. It will take time till you learn how to manage your pet and your weapons’ animations, but once you’ve done this, your ranger will be a great adition to any party.

Pets cannot lure undesirable aggro. The ranger has to have aggro before pets can get it. That’s why you can send in your pet to start attacking and the adds won’t start attacking the pet until it starts attacking them… unless you have aggro first inwhich case they are goign to be going after you unless the pets hit them first before they hit you.

Thanks for all. I have more fun with ranger than with warrior. Maybe it is not so good as warrior but fun is the most important thing for me at this moment.

That used to be true, but a patch earlier this year made it so pets can’t get aggro unless they attack something or the ranger already has aggro.
Brazil’s build is a good start. Feel free to tweak it a little to your liking. One suggestion I would make though is to have a few pieces of knight’s or soldier’s armor you can swap in for berserker’s. The glass cannon build works well in general PvE and if you’re grouped up with other glass canon builds in dungeons.
But in a pickup group you often get people without the high damage output. You end up fighting a boss, firing your elite, evades, your heal, and suddenly you’re almost dead while the boss is still at 50% hp instead of dead because the other people in your party aren’t putting out as much damage as you are. If you ever find yourself in one of these groups, you’ll need the knight’s or soldier’s armor pieces to stay alive long enough for your survival skills to come off cooldown. (Swapping jewelry is cheaper/easier, but mathematically you’re better off swapping the hat, chest, and legs first. If you’re not into min/maxing, then go ahead and have a few knight’s or soldier’s jewelry pieces on reserve.)
