Newbie Question: Bows and Regen Build advice
Bows can work NP, its just melee weapons offer so much. SB is a great weapon but i suggest you mix it with s/d or GS. LB is utter crap. #1 and #2 do less DPS than SB auto attack even before bleeding. #3 is not worth the Vuln you gain for the damage you lose. #4 KB is useful if the other attacks did anything good so why KB (which is countered by stability and teleports) when you can swap to a melee weapon. #5 is the only good skill on LB but its such a high CD, you can move out of it and you are stuck with bad skills for the rest of the weapon swap CD.
SB + GS or S/D is a great weapon option, stay away from LB. I know people can get kills with LB but you can also get kills with just the pet while you kite people around but that doesn’t make it optimal.

1# on max range is awesome in any bigger fight, where your target don’t see you are hitting him to avoid arrows.
Before saying anything about 2# dmg, better calculate it.
3# is very worth it. You can use it between autoattacks without losing anything.
4# KD has great range if you use it in melee. It’s one of the easiest-to-use skills to knock enemies from cliffs/walls and can even be used to throw them down from walls when you are under them.
5# isn’t really good against players, but it’s range is great to clear siege from walls and cripple is very useful in ZvZ.
LB is NOT as good as SB and needs buff, but it has its uses and I have no problems to run with it as “main” weapon, even in duels (GS on swap).
But yeah, in this build it won’t work. For LB to be nice you need 30 points in MM (piercing + range) and imo 25 in skirm for +10% flanking dmg.
I think I need to finally make some movie with all the WvW footage I have, instead of repeating myself over and over again…
I’m talking about WvW only.
Every time I see one of these ’ regen builds’ everyone is going melee, is there something wrong with wanting to use a bow? I know I wont be able to fit in a weapon cast time reduction in, when I have 0/0/30/10/30, but I still really like my bow skills above everything else.
Will this be alright?
Bow is viable if that’s what you want to do, I posted a build for Archers a couple of days back. I have been running full bow since Launch and enjoy skirmishing with it.
Melee weapons are more polished than bows but that doesn’t make the Archer non-viable…just less viable =) But if that’s the playstyle you are after then go for it!

I’m talking about WvW only.
- is so easy to avoid by simple movement at max range, its pretty bad.
- does less damage, ive done the math and its a bad skill.
- is not worth it if you are alone, the 10% damage does not make up the damage loss.
- KB is great and all but GS #4 > LB #4 by far.
- Like i said, only good skill.
It’s an inferior ranged weapon compared to SB. No reason to weapon swap to it unlike other classes with multiple ranged weapons.

Agreed with puandro here, i like short bow/GS myself. Some regen rangers run LB/SB some LB/GS other GS with s/d. Its really up to what you want to do and how you play. IMO all can be decent just depends on the player and stuff.

I’ve been trying a SB with the apothecary build. It certainly works well but in a different way. Its excellent for running down enermies who try to escape and makes you a little bit more useless in large scale encounters, but who those small 1v1 or 2v2 situations I still find axe/dagger + sword/torch is doing better.
But SB certain has a lot of strong points, and frankly can work with any build because it does great DD, great CD and great CC.
