Newbie rangers question
Rangers are weak in pve and wvw, but anet is slowly improving the ranger in that regard. In PvP, rangers are the best class for playing close point, because they are excellent duelists in PvP.
Dont worry too much about your class, the guild that kicked you is a guild you really don’t want to join. You should try to join one of the 300-500 man guilds on your server, because they are typically more social and friendly to new players.
Most groups won’t kick rangers, but some will kick you. The dungeons are more based on your knowledge of the mechanics rather than the class. You can be more effective than any other new player by knowing what to dodge and where to stand.
Ignore the hatters I love the ranger Proffesion. I have tried out ever proffesion on this game and some are level 80 and the ranger is my main.
Play what you like the most mate, there are always going to be some idiots who hate out class mainly when we own them 1 on 1 WvW lol, but if you enjoy it stick with it.
well see guards are a very tricky class early on as they are very squishy for some reason. (i should know my first 80 was a guard).
anyway back onto the topic rangers: people just plain hate us in PvE and WvW. Melee does indeed dominate this game so as a range using a bow most players are gonna assume ur just not gonna help the team in anyway. to break it down better. in terms of how stupid “hardcore” players think it:
damage: theives and warriors can do it better.
conditions: necro is king atm
support: bring guard or warrior.
Most players also see our pets as huge liabilities. but thats only if u dont know how to control it properly. not only that but most bow ranger playing is very selfish.
Your not dying as much when u stick to range in group fights, as an example, because you are the one that is farthest from the target.
Now then what people seem to neglect is that:
A: pets are at our control if the ranger doesnt know how to deal with it thats the players fault not the classes.
B: rangers have bears that are REALLY tanky and can be used for some team support tricks. not only that but with healing spring and some traits a ranger can provide some decent support along with their far range keeping them alive for longer in the fights.
As a player who sees value and nearly everything any class can do i see the bow as a valuable source but i also know that right now melee is still king of the game.
but as ryan said anybody whose kicking you for being a ranger is typically not people u wanna be around.
guard,mes,thief,ele,engi, warr sidekicks.
The World isnt fair. the same can apply to a game
Get a sword and axe, Get a sword and warhorn. Then go play and show them ho hard can hit a ranger!
That guild you’re talking about sounds like a bunch of kittens so it’s probably best you got kicked out. Imo outside of speed runs and high level fractals ranger is easy mode in pve and is pretty much awesome in spvp so don’t give up on the class if you’re enjoying it so far. While you wont be dealing as much dmg as the burst classes healing spring/ traps offers plenty of synergy opportunities and it looks like spirit builds are finally becoming handy.
Also if you like bows their damage increases significantly if you use piercing arrows since you can be hitting more than 3 targets more than 50% of the time if you pay attention to your position.
I’d get back on the Guardian and tweak your game controls and build until you have something really stable. …luckily you can kind of use Ranger to learn those Melee encounters better since a Ranger also has better DPS in melee than it does at Ranged. And you CAN make a very ‘tanky’ melee Ranger when you stack enough regeneration stuff together. (the only problem is combining it with managing the pet in Dungeons goes up a Skill Curve that would then be much easier to learn on the guardian first).
For instance, I’ll sometimes fight 2 or 3 Veterans together at once on my Ranger… to learn every telegraph and order of their skills so that it’s a lot easier to plan ahead and just “wreck ’em” faster on the guardian.
About the …only encounter… I can think of where I would always prefer my ranger to my Guardian, is during the “Shade Wrangling” stage of Grenth (Temple D.E.). …and that’s b/c Ranger has a much more persistent self-rez against them in lick-wounds as well as other things like an AOE Fear from the pet and lots of evasion & AoE cripple spam in your ranger skills. ….though that’s also due to an oddity in how fast the shades can spam their special Corruption through our bubbles apparently… Some people would say just go Thief then, but they rely too heavily on stealth and the whole point there is to HOLD aggro, not drop it every few seconds. ….yadda yadda yadda, getting off track here….

Thanks for all answers! I´ve decided to stick with ranger because after I´ve hit level 40 the class start to be even more fun then before!
To that guardian…I plan to give him one more chance when I reach lvl 80 with my ranger…I think its easier to learn the game as ranged class and then try melee when I will know how the game mechanicss work
Thanks.
Don’t forget that you can spec your ranger also for melee, btw.. There are a lot of different ranger builds out there to experiment with.. :-)
