Axes are my favorite weapon.
But they are mediocre compared to the rest of the choices.

Furthermore with the double sigil on 2 handed weapons they seem to have arrived at the point of obsolete.

For example:
1. I have the Axe trait and I DONT have the Greatsword trait.
2. I have +5% damage sigil with my 2 axes and no damage sigil with my Kodan Greatsword.
3. I use all skills with the 2 axes, but i dont use 1 skill with the greatsword (the counterattack, its very situational)
4.Yet the Greatsword is far better in damage.
5.It also has much more mobility.
6.Whirling Defence requires you to go near the enemy so its the same risk than the greatsword (the greatsword has even better reach).
So no silly arguments risk vs reward

Greatsword trumps them in every area (better damage, better aoe, better mobility, 2 sigils)

For my WvW Tournament and most dungeons i use greatsword, and while i love the axes/axes i am no fool to lose my dps and dont contribute to the party.

Even more baffling is the fact that shorbow, longbow have over 4 traits for them, while axes have only 1 trait.

I really dont understand it. And you guys buff the 2 handed weapons even more.
Moar traits for the longbow.

The only reason is use axes now, i because i am bored with constant use of the greatsword.

Why is there such a big disparity?

Why you force us on cookie-cutter builds of greatsword/shortbow/longbow?

There are other weapons too.

The Axe is a hybrid weapon for starters, it uses power and/or condition damage and as such it can be used in a hybrid build, or a pure power/condi build too (it’s actually a staple in most condition damage builds due to how amazing split blade is and the axe 1 + 3 are when comboing through fields due to the AoE potential).

Additionally, the Axe is a ranged weapon, and as such will ALWAYS be weaker in terms of damage when compared to the great sword or any other melee weapon, and the risk of using Whirling Defense is hardly a risk at all for how much reward you get out of using the kittening skill. 1) You deal a large sum of damage 2) you apply 13 stacks of vuln making all subsequent damage increased 3) you apply retaliation making ANYONE who attacks you take ~360 damage with a power build, 4) reflect all ranged attacks successfully nullifying most interrupts in the game, in addition to giving your allies a safety zone from projectiles (including grenades from engis) and punishing any enemy trying to attack you, or an ally that’s protected by your bubble (which is huge when traited) 5) this skill is the longest whirl finisher IN THE GAME, this makes the whirl finisher stronger (contrary to popular belief) due to it throwing more bolts out by using one skill, additionally if you have a target one of the two bolts thrown out is thrown towards the target making utilizing this ability in a field quite dangerous. EX: If used in an Etheral Field you end the skill with 15 stacks of confusion on your target if they were in melee range, there’s more confusion than that applied, some of it (i believe 3 stacks) falls off during the course of the skill.

Great Sword is a Melee weapon, and as such would NEED better mobility than a ranged weapon, additionally the Axe has a chill + perma weakness on the 3 which can drastically decrease the amount of damage an enemy can put out due to the weakness AND the increased CD duration from the chill.

Also, the Axe is a strong weapon by default, and with minimal to no trait investment is a very powerful weapon, many people would argue that the LB and GS suffer from “needing” trait investment to even be worth it (i’d argue otherwise), additionally, the Axe has versatility where a GS, LB, and SB do not. IF i take an Axe i can then choose, "Do i want more control? (axe off hand) Do i want more damage? (torch off hand) Do i want some support? (Warhorn off hand) or Do I want some more utility? (dagger evade + cripple + poison)

Also, the Axe AoE is > GS AoE, GS AoE is a short range cleave, the Axe hits just as many targets but in a larger range, can hit targets you can’t see due to the bouncing, has a multi target pierce (split blade and path of scars), and if you use WD in a zerg you’ll likely reflect quite a bit of ranged attacks back to attackers causing you to get a lot more than 3 tags (pro tip use it when you know ranged are shooting you/nearby allies, if you reflect say, an ele’s fireball you’ll tag everyone hit by that fire ball).

If you want help with Axe play style/building feel free to hit me up in game sometime i’ll be more than happy to help you out! I love the axe as a weapon and would love to see it use more in power builds!

The value of the axe is known.
I simply said that the axes’ value are much worse than greatsword.

I will defeat your arguement with a single question:
Just consider how many people you see roaming with greatswords/bows and how many with axes

The overwhelming majority of the players disagrees with you.

And the 2 sigil buff was today. Even more buffs for the 2 handed.
Expect the gap to widen more.

The 2 sigils per 2H wasn’t a buff, it was an equalizer, having 2 one handers was always much more advantageous than having one two hander due to the sigils alone.

And you must be new here, because most of the players that are actual ROAMERS and not mindless zerglings run around using an Axe + Sword condition build with a dagger and torch complementing the main hand weapons (it varies on players preference), the only reason people even run GS in WvW is so they can use swoop to catch back up to their zerg if they fall behind, and they use a bow so they can shoot people in the enemy zerg.

Btw, i don’t care how many Bearbows there are that “roam” with a GS and LB, until one of these rangers proves that they’re even half of a hot join hero when it comes to skill and ability they’re nothing more than a lost zergling in my, and many other rangers, mind.
