Nice nerf on smokescale! -.-
What the difference from how it was to what it is now?
nerf ~300 damage per hit and five hits of seven
(edited by kleym.2340)
I really liked this pet : (
five hits instead of seven
As far as I can tell, the damage seems on par to what it was before. In the PvP lobby, I took out both bosses in no time. Also with full life for me and full life for my the pet. Took out the Blue Lord and all his minions at the same time.
The only difference, as far as I see, is that the F2 abilities were swapped. Otherwise, it feels the same, but now Smoke Assault is automatic. Keep in mind Assault is also on a 4-second shorter timer too. 16 seconds as opposed to 20. So, now, it’s spamming Assault a lot more.
I’ll solo the Archmage in Orr to test it further.

Uh oh, you mean the golems still have high armor values? Say it isn’t so!
Smoke Assault’s overall damage appears to be higher by about 7%, but it takes up a slightly greater part of the pet’s ability rotation, making it pretty much a wash.
Smokescale does the same dps as before the patch, but with weaker and less controllable burst. But at least now the combo field is usable.

Can tell you, after I just soloed the Archmage in Orr, the damage is higher in a longer fight. I am loving this change! Again, thank you ANet!
Edit: Also keep in mind the pet is no longer spamming Smoke Field. This means it’s continuously attacking as well. And, of course, that equals more damage in the long-term as well.
Again, loving this. It feels like the old Smokescale is back.

Thank you i had the same impression because now i can focus in the game and the pet drop the assault more often is actually better. I’m loving it too
If you take beastmastery, Smoke Assault is now on a 16 seconds recharge, knock down is on a 16 seconds recharge and F2 give the very useful smoke field. It’s a very solid pet.
They dont nerf only 2 hits, also nerf the damage!
And what do you expect now? For the Beastmaster trait to be obsolete?
It’s common sense, that a pet does more damage with that trait line on rather than off, that’s the way things should work.
If you don’t like it quit, but don’t ever expect it to be otherwise than designed.
This pet used to be so awesome. I am struggling to find a replacement right now.
It did indeed get a buff in cooldown. It used to be 24 seconds untraited and now it is 20 seconds.
At least we got something back for the big damage loss.

Not sure what you’re on about, but they meant the base damage had been reduced.

More than anything was my impression from the screenshot the OP posted as if he was generally dissatisfied about the overall damage without the trait, which is normal.
I would never expect a pet do more damage without the trait as with it, that’s logic.
As far as the overall damage reduction, as I wrote in another post, I too think there was a huge gap between other pets and the Smokescale, rendering them obsolete. I thought it’s so powerful I almost felt sorry for my opponents, so I am not against the nerf.
A game should be fun and challenging a bit, I don’t want to complete every battle with my eyes closed. For that I don’t need to turn on my computer.

I just wonder.
They had one job:
- Put Smoke field back ton F2
- Then put smoke assault back to toolkit of a pet
- Since damage was nerfed 50% your job is done.
But what i dont get is why such a drastic nerf to assault:
- Nerf pet for 50% on the release
- Nerf 2 hits [2 might lost and 10% damage per hit which sums it up to additional 20%]
- Nerf base damage of each hit 704 > 576,2 average damage [additinal 20% nerf]
IN TOTAL SMOKE ASSAULT HAD 81% nerf to compensate 4 seconds CD reduction.

They should make F2 smoke field, swap skills around done, damage of assault was already nerfed to the ground, why would one need to nerf that even further…
Again, I’m really not seeing this damage nerf. The pet is continually attacking now. It doesn’t have to chase the target since it’ll teleport. The amount of it spams Smoke Assault is down from 26 seconds, to 20 seconds, and then 16 seconds if you are Beast-spec.
Sorry to say, but this time the sky is definitely not falling.
Beastmastery gives the pet another 150 power and 300 ferocity. It also gives the pet 10% more damage when you are above 90% health.
I’ve never really thought about this, but isn’t the damage displayed (base damage if you will) based on pet stats (and possibly traits)?
Will have to take a look after work this evening.
the smoke filed made it back to F2 but in true ranger fashion we also had to get a damage nerf to compensate lmao.
The syngery with pack alpha should’ve been there since the beggining everyone’s acting like it’s a nice little luxury we got this last patch, it was a bugfix, and almost nobody takes BM anymore even for pve, so why even bother considering that. Had it been working from the begining it would’ve always been 20s cd, so they’re basically just cutting 4s coldown, but gutting the damage by 30% rofl, and nerfing the might stacking.
I’m supporting @Firelysm.4967 with this one.

Because ranger
LGN
Well They nerf this pet attacking skill 3 Also Took me 8K in just reloaded this attack in 30s, not my wolf and leopard Took much the same damage to “sic”, signet wild and beastmaster.Smoke Scale was very strong that way and any ranger no finger can bring down the other, especially with druid healing quickly
