Noob Questions on Ranger
Profession is pretty much irrelevant (from a performance perspective) in every game mode unless you’re competing in a tournament with the top .001% of all players.
You can 100% definitely find people to play with as a ranger.
Also, welcome.
You are starting the game at a total interesting time, because we will get the biggest balancing patch gw2 ever had today. Skills and traits will get balanced on an entire new way and everyone of us has to find out how to play his own class in the future. That’s the reason no one will be able to tell you which build will be best and how good rangers will be yet.
Just start playing with us and keep asking people in the future, there are very many kind people in this community.
So I hope you will enjoy your adventure and welcome to the world of tyria.

Just as Kodama says.
We can’t say for sure – but Rangers have some damage to offer. And even if it’s not the meta – it will do just fine. Stick around, take a sip of that coffee and enjoy your stay. Ranger is fun to play.
You have a couple character slots to play with when you start as well. try a few things out and see what fits. Ranger, to me, is a fun class to play. I have each profession at 80 but i still only play my ranger.
Thank you for the replies and motivation.
I will try with ranger if not suits to me or If I feel I am underpowered I will try something else
Also I will follow from the ranger forum affects of the new patch on Ranger Class.
Thanks a lot!
The main advice I can give in regards to the ranger is being aware of your pet, it’s a part of the profession, not just a bonus damage boost. Get used to it, the AI isn’t awesome, but it’s predictable and controllable.
Good rangers have no trouble with content and leave other players quite pleasantly surprised.
Bad rangers do have trouble with content, blame it on the class, and fulfil the “kitten” view some people have of pet classes.
If you take the time to learn the class, you’ll be fine.
Try your best to not make mistakes, but, when you do make mistakes, learn from them.
Better yourself.
Expect to be not the best in any department. Also, don’t ever use longbow skill 4.
Have fun playing.

No, don’t spam longbow 4. Be aware of what it does and use it when it’s appropriate. That skill is incredible valuable in pvp and WvW.
This is the same for every skill. Be prepared to adapt to the situation. You may find you really enjoy using longbow and shooting things from a distance but in certain situations, like pve dungeons, you will be much more effective using your melee weapon.
Continue checking the forums and asking questions. Also look for good steamers and check metabattle to get a good idea of what builds work where, and then adjust the builds to fit your play style.
I actually agree with Wuselknusel
Don’t use longbow 4. Ever. I got flamed for saving my team member by interrupt-pushing the boss away from our downed Guardian.
I realized I feel better dying or wiping than being flamed for saving the guy.

Yeah, the only place you can use PBS is when solo roaming WvW or PvE

OR in PvP when interrupting stomps, channels, knocking someone off point, or off a ledge, knocking players into an aoe bomb, etc.
Every skill is useful in the right situation. You shouldn’t tell new players otherwise.
@OP- take the time to learn what each of your skills does. There are a lot of people in this game that spam 1-5, swap weapons and repeat. Don’t be one of those people.
