I want to make a ranger next, but I’m having a hard time deciding what race to choose. I know it’s personal preference, I just want to hear your thoughts!

Of those races, Norn seem to have much more an affinity for nature and the natural world than Humans and Asura.

This, if you’re wanting something from a lore or RP perspective. Otherwise, Asura have some nice racial utility skills that certain ranger builds might really enjoy.

Too many Humans, not enough Norn and Asura. Remember that Norn share all non-racial armors with Humans.

Asura because power ranger with the daze racial skill would be godly. Wish I could be an asura…

I think Norn T3 medium armor is among the best looking armor sets in the game

Here are my thoughts about the three race choices:

Human
Pros: Looks decent in medium armor, ideal race for a ranger
Cons: A little overpopulated, sometimes feels kinda bland

Norn
Pros: Character model looks intimidating, ideal race for a ranger
Cons: Seems weird that a hulking behemoth for a man would be hiding behind
a smaller pet during battle

Asura
Pro: Smaller than most pets, a good reason for why a small asura would be hiding behind a larger pet during battle, interesting race choice
Cons: Not really known for using bow and arrows as much as modern technology

Norn: strong transformation elite (evasion/mobility), legendary’s are huuuge

Human: additional condition removal, prayer to lyssa, and hounds of balthasar, traditional look (overall defensive)

asura: small, hard to see animations make it great for pvp; offensive boons like confusion can be strong in certain ranger builds

Sylvari! Seriously they are better looking as ranger than any other class. I really wished I can re-create my ranger as Sylvari but I am too lazy to re run as lvl 1 ranger again.

Norn cultural armors are vastly vastly superior to humans, this goes for all 3 armor classes too.

Yet tried Norn and sylvari but here’s the good stuff for human and asuras.

Humans have a prayer that removes 3 conditions off you, quite useful sometimes considering the healing spring takes 30s especially when you’re running power ranger.

Asuras have the nifty technobabble which causes stun for 1200 range. Not bad actually. and when running condition ranger with short bow and great sword you’ll have access to 3 stuns, and with rune of perplexity… Muahahha

That’s all, hope you find a good class to use!

Personally I went Norn for the racials in WvW, specifically the dash/stealth from Leopard form. I can’t count the number of times that has gotten me past a zerg into a tower or keep to defend. Good for getting up on siege as well in the field…and the others have a good range of usefulness as well depending on your build. Best bang for your buck in terms of abilities access in my opinion.

Yeah silvari are the most “natural” choice, my ranger is one.

I’d personally say Sylvari as well, but that wasn’t one of the options that Divine was considering.

Asura Rangers rule- you’re out collecting ‘specimens’ instead of companions .

Unlike some Asura, you always have a lab animal handy for your experiments!

sylvari ranger rulz! i have a cultural t1-2 and TA armor mix with kudzu and a yellow flower back. im not one with the nature, im the nature!

smaller = better in WvWvW and PvP. Sighting issues, hiding better, issues, blending in better issues, etc..

For lore: Norn
For armor: Human
For animations: Asura

You didn’t have Sylvari as an option, but I gotta say they’re the better combination of lore & armor.

I noticed a lot of you are wondering why I didn’t list a Sylvari. I do agree, they are probably the most fitting choice, my last character was a Sylvari mesmer so I was looking to play a different race this time.

As you’re not looking for Sylvari, Norn definitely seems most fitting lore-wise.
