Not awful patch after all? Yay or nay?
Basically pets are useless. Pets die = 25s where the ranger is left defenseless.
With no increase to their hp, they have become garbage.

Well no just running from mob to mob the spirit will be down forever. There won’t be any spirit rangers after this, they completely gutted it.
They said they changed the length and behavior of the cooldown, they didn’t say anything about changing the duration.
Any way you slice it, though, the boon does have a mandatory downtime.

Anyways, I’ve been playing GW games since Pre but it’s clear there is nothing left of the old ANet who dreamed of GW2. They had how many weeks to work on skill changes and they did what with that? I’ve had enough of this new company’s lies and incompetence.
I’m uninstalling.
Have fun with your useless profession mechanic, kitten -poor designed traits and utility skills, lazily band-aided weapons, and last but not least your completely ignored profession sub forums and suggestions.

What, this is it? The whole post-PAX patch? I know I said I don’t expect major changes today, that they’ll rather come in the next one, but this looks like some kind of joke. Not even the spirits nerf, but just this lack of… well, anything.
Meanwhile, when Necro gets a nerf, they split the nerf between PvP and the rest of the game. So, you CAN do it Anet, can’t you?

Has anyone tried the spirits yet? Do they still have a duration of 1minute? Or are they permanent till dead?
As for the change, this is exactly how I would have changed them. But I would have liked to have seen them move on their own without a 30 pt trait. Would have also been nice if they adjusted the spirits to hit 5 targets with their AE instead of only 3 which was rumored in another thread (I never tested the spirits myself).
On the flip side, the pets are probably now just as useless as all other summonable pets like others have already said. Will be nice to see Rangers disappear from this game entirely.

if you will not split the skills, then end it please. only a tiny tiny tiny fraction of the playerbase even uses that mode of the game.

If they want to lose the vast majority of their playerbase I suppose that would be a good idea.
No, really, I think it’s ridiculous to allow the SPvP minority to continue running the game into the ground with their tantrums. This game will never take off as an e-sport and the sooner ArenaNet understands that and cuts their losses the better.
Can anyone confirm if they still only last 60s? If so I’m very disappointed in this change, although I -can- go back to playing spirit ranger how I used to (summon the spirits as needed don’t leave them all up) which was a tad more fun…
On the bright side! If we spawn out spirits and they get instapwned by a heavy AoE build we aren’t forced into a 60s CD….
I’m not as disappointed with the change to spirits as I am about the lack of balance changes as a whole…

Roll guardian, it’s untouchable really by the dev team and community. Necro on the other hand…
“auto-death” is still after 60 seconds but you have to wait 25 seconds until you can resummon them.

I suggest every ranger to roll a necro now heres why
1. more burst and condi damage to ranger in all categories.
2. You can literally fear chain people off walls or cliffs and my most fav SKYHAMMER MUHA
3. Condi Burst build that has been out for a while combines. conditions and the terror effect which can pretty much murder any class who is dumb enough to go heads up with a good necro. who can chain it right.
4. And last but not least. you can be noob. and stack condis on everyone oh and my personal favorite. mark BOMBING thats my fav of all 4 lol.. and they said Spirit rangers had no skill to be good. when necro puts out less effort than they even do. even im switching now. ive had it with anet.
Might be better in dungeons if it gets popped before a certain time; I’ll elaborate on this thought later.

I dunno Chopps. I have the feeling those changes have made the build not viable at all, but it’s probably too early to speak. Still, spirit ranger was extremely boring to play and, more important, was simply harmful for gw2 tpvp. Something had to be made.
What i don’t really like about anet is they design things poorly and then they have to nerf and fix them. This happened with our pets (dmg) and now with our spirits. It’s clearly too hard for them to redesign things properly, nerfing them is soooo much easier.
Awful patch! They just wanted to stop the sheetstorm on the boards, and decided to feed the haters spirit rangers. No balancing involved. Changes weren’t carefully weighted, there was no shaving, they just chopped it so they won’t have to publicly feel ashamed anymore of their own work.
As much as I disliked the petting zoo builds, they still require a full traits and utilities investment to be viable, so right now they aren’t viable anymore. I wonder if the ranger class will ever be given mechanics/utilities other than signets, that aren’t always: dead, pathing, recovering, out of place, etc etc.
Seriously just remove these kittenty spirits already, make them a spirit blessing with X power and Y recast that we can just use to buff ourselves/allies and gg.

Pretty much, L2P. I actually see this patch as a buff to spirits.
If you are running spirits in dungeons, its pretty great. First, the buff effects stays with you even when it dies, if it activated so you dont lose the buffs anyways, assuming it’s position right, it wont die. You really shouldnt be having the spirit trait for it to move in a dungeon anyways. Most trash mobs and Boss fight is in a contained area and since the game favors High and Fast DPS, it would larely become useless as you move on to the next section of the dungeon anyways.
The CD change and reduction is awesome. If anyone used spirits, you would know that the position it spawns at is random around your character so sometimes its hard to get exact perfect position. the new system allows us to summon a spirit again in 25s after it’s death instead of a full 50s+ when it dies the moment its summoned. This allows us to actually be forgiven for messing up the position and allow us to have the spirit up more often. It is also great for WvW, since AoE will insta kill it, forcing us to wait on the longer CD.
The added ability of being CC’ed allows it to be knocked out/pushed back out from AoE, especially in WvW or inside a dungeon. The question remains if it will still give the buff when CC’ed, which wouldnt matter if we already received the buff, then it gets CC’ed.
Spirit of Nature CD reduction, awesome, the CD on it was too long for such a crappy ELite (in most circumstances) so any buff helps for it.

Hit the nail on the head there. At first all the whining was about necromancers but then it gradually shifted to spirit rangers and that’s who ended up playing the role of the sacrificial sheep.
We’ve been stuck with the same PvE meta since day one with engineers, necromancers and rangers all being unwanted presences in groups and yet these are the classes who end up being pushed further into the kittencreek due to SPvP. SPvP is actively killing this game.
It actually makes sense, since from a technical standpoint, the cooldown on spirits was the only cooldown in the game that recharged while the summon was active. Now the summons are all in line with each other.
That being said, I’ll be staying off the ranger forums until the community gets its kitten together.

To be honest I do not even care about spirits. They were lame before the patch, they remain lame after. Nothing changes there.
Of course, I am speaking from PvE/WvW PoV.
Why are you guys crying? Is it really that hard to setup your spirits before a boss fight to a safe location and then re-summon in 25 seconds for the next fight? This is a buff for you pvers actually. This gives you a shorter CD. How about you l2p pve and be happy that the devs are doing a good job at balancing pve and pvp. Anet is actually losing a good amount of people from pvp because they give you guys priority. So how bout you adapt?
Also myself, when I pve I go zerkers for most gear and focus on traits that give damage. That seems to be best for group play. I can outdps almost anyone and I still have decent toughness. Think you guys are the noobs that give rangers a bad rap. What does a FULL spirits build give to a group seriously, before or after this patch.

If you want to be the unstoppable, nothings wrong here with the class.. fine do that, but don’t deny anyone else there say.

didn’t run spirits before the patch and definitely won’t now. what sucks is they took away the only alternative to bunker in PVP and one less option in PVE. let’s all roll trap ranger and see what anet nerfs next
if spirit actives were actually good and made a difference, this would have been a buff. cuz blowing up spirits would have been a viable solution (kind of like traps). but spirits and their actives have always been crap, except for in spvp. so this nerf makes no difference to me.

Great! So our spirits will now follow us around without us needing to trait for it, and they’ll actively attack/defend on their own instead of just give a buff?
They’ve essentially turned ranger spirits into warrior banners with all the disadvantages of guardian spirit weapons, plus the disadvantage of having to devote trait points to get them to be mobile like guardian spirits.
