Now that raids are out
Haven’t seen more than the first boss, but it seems like DPS is a needed a hell of a lot more than healing. Probly regular condi ranger over any sort of druid.
Edit: Actually nevermind I can’t say that, I know DnT has said you’ll need different comps for each boss, so healing may be important in some cases.

Yeah, I would be very surprised if the only thing that would count vs the raid bosses are maxed out dps. And I would be very disappointed if that was the case.

Well, if it goes back to DPS only the developers should consider that a failure. Raiding was supposed to bring into play a supporting role with healing in mind. If it turns out this isn’t the case one would have to ask why have a Druid at all.

There is a kitten ton of damage on the boss and its hard to heal with full clerics gear and staff camping.
A lot of it is avoidable though.

Which boss? How far did you make it? The first boss doesn’t put out that much damage other than via the big mechanics and a healer isn’t needed, but I haven’t seen the later bosses.
First boss. You probably need a healer for it, definitely don’t think you can do this without a healer. Didn’t make it that far, still getting used to the fight.
I got to last boss. It’s at least 3x as hard as during Beta (wich we already failed him with a tiny amount).
As a druid i feel i dont heal enough (the boss really does a lot of aoe’s from 2000-5000 damage even on tanky builds). As a dps druid i feel damage lacks (we ended up only removing 5% of his hp after 4 minute play.
As a celestial I feel I lack in both.
I tried sinister engie (supposed to be a dps monster). In pve it’s dps monster, in Vale I dunno. Still felt lacking as thought I was doing 10 times lower damage then I should.
No excuse anymore for not giving ‘hide mounts’-option
No thanks to unidentified weapons.

The vale guardian? That’s not the last boss, that’s the first boss. There are a bunch more after him.
This is super spoiler heavy, but it does “confirm” a healer is need for later on:
Also I hate reddit more than like, murder. Reddit is the worst thing that has ever happened to the internet and browsing it makes me want to kill babies. But whatever, good info.

Well there is your first no Druid run https://youtu.be/QDqsoMFUFU0
The video I posted literally directly above you doesn’t have a druid.
I also watched Brazil finish the first boss (tuned it right as he got it). His group used 9 DPS and 1 druid that was both healer and tank. I’m not sure how much that was needed though since everytime the party took damage the leader called for a stack and waterfield.

Haha! I hadn’t even got through the whole thread yet, some of the first posts caught my eye. Thought we’d see this to be honest. Been working like this in WvW for the last 3 years.

To be fair they still used quite a bit of healing. Nothing says you have to bring a druid, you just have to bring heals.

Yeah, Druid’s competition with water fields was exactly what I was afraid of when Druid was announced. I actually like the function of water fields, and how they require group organization for maximum effectiveness, so I don’t want to see them removed/nerfed. But that leaves Druid in a really awkward place, if Druid is not even that useful in the high-end content for which it was created.

That is actually a very true, and interesting point. But wasn’t that the Druid’s claim to fame? Personally I would have thought Druid or Guardian since they both seem to play off the heal or group support. Guardian has been around a while, Druid just out.
Maybe it will change as people progress through the content and Druid or more specific healing duties will present itself.

From WPs video and hearsay, it seems like you really need more than just waterfields as you move on to the 2nd and 3rd bosses. Even if it is possible just by supporting each other, it’s probably just easier with a healer.

think of it this way , what other class can bring as many heals as us without Giving up important traits for support traits and doing so means changing the entire damage trait line of said class + the changing of 1-3 Utilities or using the mechanics Differently to provide said heals .
E.g Boon shatter mesmer no a Reliable source of healing and shattering at wrong times to heal can cause those shatters to damage plus or Trigger unwanted boss mechanics by using said shatter at the wrong time.
druids have much more Vast control of when they heal and how they heal or even the locations they can heal , not restricted to being forced to stay in range or a certain radius (e.g glyphs is the only issue) but atleast we have many more options to heal without limiting our builds to set weapons/traits/Utilities .
straight up just by taking druid and staff we heal better and more effectively by Default healing power or not.

Give it time, raids just came out the other day and we’ve already seen clears without a Druid, let people work it out and I’m sure we will see a few more interesting (non-Druid) runs. This is going exactly how I thought it would.
Theoretically speaking, using spirits and glyph of empowerment should cover any dps issues a druid can have…imo 20% more damage and might stacking on 5 people that also have a chance to cause vulnerability on hit, should be enough. Keeping in mind you’re not going full minstrel and have access to some power, i think it could be even better than the best full-zerker (That said while keeping in mind you run nature magic for the frost spirit to grant might, and have some boon duration). I haven’t tried this build in real time raiding yet, but i hope to do so today ^^ also depends on how do you define dps? support orientated druid can contribute to the damage pool by making their allies be more powerful, rather than doing damage themselves.
And yes, i play [Teef] :)
