obstructed is not just a ranger issue
i have to say, playing my warrior, ranger, thief…it’s kitten near a “ranger issue”. only on some burrows in ac do i get it on the thief but of course standing on uneven ground with my warrior and thief almost never return that obstructed/invulnerable crap on enemies. ranger….all the time in every part of the game.
well… i have lvl 80 ranger… guardian… thief… warrior… elementalist…
and i can tell you first hand that none of the others face “obstructed” issue as much as ranger… fact… the reason? i dont know… but they simply dont…
I completely agree with others here.
I have a ranger and a thief, when I use shortbow on my thief I rarely see obstructed unless I am firing directly into a wall or tree. In the open I will often times even see my arrows track and follow the target around corners/buildings and still hitting without obstruction.
Yes other classes get obstructions when they shouldn’t, but as a ranger I see it at least four or five times as often. I would say this is a ranger specific issue considering how much more detrimental it is to ranger dps then what most classes suffer.

Tell me wtf was in my way to get me obstructed on my Torch Throw….I’m sure it’s the bird, but for that to be true, the bloody hit box would have to be way to big.

I agree with the others, it is much more a ranger issue than not. You see this non-stop on a ranger, but doing ranged on other classes it’s pretty rare, in comparison.
The pet is definitely part of the problem, but he’s not the root of it. It happens with or without him in the way.
I started play a warrior after the aqua-man patch, as a warrior i use a longbow and rifle to give me that ranger feel. I have notice way less “Obstructed” using a bow on my warrior than my ranger. The only time i get obstructed is when i know im not going to hit the target. So in many ways i can say its more a ranger issue.

Yes very true all classes that use a bow have obstuction problems, but who uses the bow for their main damage?
It’s not a Range problem but a weapon problem. Mainly any bow.

A pathfinding* problem.
It would actually require ANet to amend the engine they built GW2 on. This is why it could deem very controversial if the mechanic becomes wide-spread and exploited.
I only have ranger and I do find I have to navigate to the perfect spot and then continue moving as other people move to even get hits in.
I wasn’t aware that other classes didn’t have this issue, or at least it wasn’t that bad.. if so.. come on.. you can’t have a class handicapped like that while others don’t have the same problem

I wonder if it is combat delay, your axe is saying target is at location X and then the target changes location to Y but your axe is already in the air. Even know your computer has registered the new location of your target but try’s to send the information back to update the axe but doesn’t make it in time and it still thinks its hitting location x but has registered an object at location Y.

In my opinion, this is the highest priority when it comes to fixing weapons. Especially for Rangers.

After watching more and more videos on youtube and videos I’ve recorded, something really stands out, ranged weapons get Evaded/Obstructed and melee weapons get Evaded/Missed, I never seen ranged attack get the “Miss” once, only “Evaded/Obstructed” and by only seeing Obstructed we think its a bug naturely when its really just a miss.
I took good look at Xsorus.2507, video over and over again the projectile missed its target and then says Obstructed, makes me think maybe Anet has designed ranged to say Obstructed over Miss.
Take look at melee on youtube not once so far have I see them Obstructed but I have seem them miss there target.
We “Kite” melee so they miss, so why can’t they kite our projectiles and the term used is Obstructed, projectiles are not heat seeking missiles so there not going to suddenly change direction.

Show me how to kite an invisible/cloned enemy. How do you kite melee classes with huge gap closers and teleports. Plus, try kiting a shortbow thief. See how far that gets you. He’s going to deal +50% more damage to you because of your pet via trickshot. Warriors are master with the bow/rifle as well.

I understand what you described lad… but since i ve been playing ranger from betas and paying attention to this specific issue, to me it seems as follows…
melee;
- you get hits when you hit (naturally)
- you get misses and evaded when they back out or roll out
- you get blocks or “0” damage when they use an invulnerability skill
- you dont actually get many “obstructed” by another object (naturally again) since you always try to be on your opponents face and you do not usually put a tree or rock between you and your target.
- you get “invulnerable” when you exploit the level differences of the terrain. As of you can hit them and they have no way of reaching you.
ranged;
- you get hits when you hit (naturally)
- you get misses and evaded when they back out of range or roll out
- you get blocks or “0” damage when they use an invulnerability skill
- you should get “obstructed” if and only if you have a solid object between you and your target. IF YOU HAVE PIERCING TRAIT other players should not count as obstructions. You would only hit less to your original target since your main damage will land on the closer players first and gradually decrease. but no obstructions.
- you get “invulnerable” when you exploit the level differences of the terrain. As of you can hit them and they have no way of reaching you.
That seems to be the logic of the game… but i keep getting “obstructed” even when i pay attention to the opponents defensive skills and save my hitters for the appropriate moment when i am at the sweet spot (which can be described as i am out of melee range and not so far out at the max range so that they can get out of it by a step back) and shoot them at the open area… no trees… no rocks… even ground… not even my pet
(i do not agree the “hit box of my pet” issue but for the sake of eliminating that risk i disable my pet)…
correct me if i am wrong… but based on the logic above, the amount of “obstructed” we get is more than a verbal description issue.
Even if it is… it just nullifies the reason to use a bow since its the most ineffective and inaccurate weapon in game. Judging again by the amount of “misses/obstructions” we get.
Above description is a bit hypocrite to me as of having the least accurate character while the main attribute for us is the “precision”… just seems weird

I find I get “invulnerable” more often than obstructed. In the new dungeon I only hit like half the time if I am at range (with my longbow, which I guess is supposed to be a melee bow?)
I’ve had arrows shot in direct clear view of the enemy with no obstacles in the way, the enemy right infront of you out in the WIDE OPEN, and still it gets obstructed.

My Ranger’s longbow “Rapid Fire” get’s obstructed for no reason all of the time. It’s rare when it’s not. It’s the root of all my hate for Longbow.
But don’t fear, Thieves also have this problem with their Pistol “Unload.” Actually, any ranged Physical Projectile that channels has that problem above all other skills. It’s the most noticeable, anyways.
‘Obstructed’ is the reason I don’t take my ranger in AC dungeon, when fighting burrows 90% of my hits say obstructed regardless of where I am standing or how far away from it I am.

And this is why I quit doing PvP. I would pop QZ with Shortbow or Rapid Fire on Longbow and it was a 50/50 chance that every shot would be obstructed. What’s the point of having skills when half the time they fail to land hits.
It’s something they should have as #1 on the list of bug fixes if you ask me. It effects many classes but seems to hurt the Ranger the most.

My favorite is obstructed on catapults, even though my arrows are clearly hitting/going thru it (piercing arrows).
I know we have a lot of issues… and i am not really the whining type in the forums…
But for pitys sake if nothing else please fix this urgent… it just makes ranger frustrating at the least especially in WvW… you do everything you can, swap pets, use according buffs, apply openers and try to get every broken advantage your class supposed to offer in a fight, just to end up seeing “obstructed, obstructed, obstructed”
That is really discouraging to continue playing a ranger…

Very frustrating to get invulnerable / obscured all the time. Sometimes i even wonder if they _EVER _ get to playtest released content …
