On Kill Stacks
DAOC Vet – Etheria & Schado Fox
Dont think theres some trick to it no. I never use them except of bunker builds for that very reason, but on a good bunker you should be able to get 15+ kills before you die unless you get unlucky.
You could always kill NPCs to get it back up, when I was trying my trapper ranger I would be find a pack of wolves and mass kill them. Can easily kill 10-20 in a minute or two if you have good AoE because each one summons a second one.

Thats pretty much how I get my stacks. While I am running to wherever I happen to be going, I just kill the mobs on the way. Once I have a full stack of whatever sigil it is I am running, I switch to my “combat” weapon. In this case, its a shortbow with a superior sigil of fire (love that combo!).
Using two weapons with the same sigil can increase the speed of the stacking, but at the expense of the utility of another sigil. The best “trick” I know is just swapping out the weapon with the stack sigil with the same weapon type that has your “combat” sigil.

Don’t player kills increase the stack by 5, and not 1?

Don’t think of the stacked stat as part of your build, merely a bonus. Then the stack number doesn’t become as important.
It takes 5 minutes to get 25 stacks by killing wolfs or coyotes. Once you have the 25, switch weapons. It worth the extra time. With 250 extra power, you can focus more on defense and not die so easy to keep those stacks.

You can also fast stack by putting your “On kill stack” sigil of choice in a main hand and off-hand weapon. By doing this you stack twice as fast since both sigils receive credit for the kill. Instead of killing 25 creatures you only need 13. You can even start fighting in one weapon set, say a bow, and just before they die weapon swap to the weapons with the sigils and you’ll get the credit.
I think they have to be the weapons you want to use though. If you change out weapon sets you ’ll lose the buff if memory serves me correct.
See you in Tyria.
I run a bunker (high healing-power build) so I start out with Sigil of Life. I like it because the more stacks I get, the somewhat harder I am to kill, meaning the less likely I am to lose my stacks.
Once I get up to 250 stacks I switch to weapons with damage related sigils, and also can switch to other gear/consumables as needed. If the chances of running into really dangerous/tough situations seem high, I’ll stick with food and armor that emphasizes healing power, but if things seem pretty safe on the map, I’ll sometimes change some of my armor and food to add more damage to my build. In other words, depending on the number of enemies their organization and skill level, and how I want to play, I’ll lean towards either gear and consumables with more survivability, or more damage.
