Q:
One hand sword questions
A:
Nope, that’s supposed to happen. People have been complaining about it for a while. Hopefully the devs will fix it, but right now that’s how it is.
If you look at the skill description for Stage 2 and even the animation, you’ll notice why you’re rooted.
2: Kick ¼ Kick your foe, crippling them for a short time.
Kicking someone requires the use of a foot, which means you are no longer using both feet to run around. It also chains into…
3: Pounce ¾ Leap at your foe, striking them. Your pet gains might.
Meaning that the ground you lost while rooted for a ¼ of a second will be more than made up by the leap, which has SUBSTANTIAL range by the way.
I’ve noticed that the Sword is more of a single-target weapon specialized in chasing down enemies. It can be wonky in big fights when a kick kills a target and you go FLYING in the direction you’re facing, but it does some good damage and is great for killing singular mobs.
I would recommend turning off your Auto-Attack(ctrl+right click) so you can have more control over when you’re kicking, and in turn getting rooted, and when you’re leaping.

This is the only real solution(the player-made band-aid fix). It’s pretty annoying having to spam 1 constantly though when you are trying to kill something, but it’s the only way to be able to move/dodge while using a sword.
Very regressive, feels like playing older MMOs where you just kept spamming the same button over and over.
Turning off the auto attack helps. I find even with it off many times after getting the finishing blow my character will still leap forward, often jumping off ledges or into new mobs.

That only happens if you’re spamming the attack key. It queues up the 1 skill, so even after you’ve finished pressing it, the game will still try to execute the command.
What Cris said
Its tempting, but you CANNOT spam with this weapon. It takes discipline and control, but if you learn the timing you also be excellent with Ranger GS auto (and be able to dodge on command)
I’m getting the feeling that this automatic ‘root’ of the player when using the one-handed sword is the price you pay for the crippling kick that comes with the weapon. A suggestion would be to remove this kick animation and replace it with a low-sweeping sword slice that has, say, a 30% chance to cripple. To consistently cripple someone is pretty OP, I feel, but to be rooted everytime you want to auto-attack is very frustrating. I feel this is a good solution.
