One simple question i can't understand
Damage isn’t the only thing that matters. Other classes don’t get a second healthbar which can be instantly healed every 20 seconds (assuming you don’t let it go down all the way). Pets provide utility beyond pure damage.
Obviously there are major problems with the way pets function right now, but I don’t think the core class mechanic itself is bad. With some fixes and tweaks I think it could work.
i agree with electro
35-45% of the dmg Oo
my pet can do so only if i am using only autoattack

Except for the fact that this “second health bar” is in no way tied to your character’s survivability. Sure, your pet can take hits for you, but so can necromancers’ minions, elementalists’ summoned elementals, and just about any other summoned creature characters can produce.
Pets do provide some utility, but 75% of that utility is left in the hands of an unreliable AI, which seems to have more trouble keeping itself alive than a squirrel on a busy freeway.
The ranger’s pet mechanic is essentially the same as summoned creatures produced by other professions. The only differences being, we have slightly more control over our pets, they never go away, and they have a few more abilities. But at the pets’ core is the same AI that plagues all summoned creatures. It’s a shame that the ranger’s “unique” profession mechanic is a glorified necromancer minion that we can’t blow up to get more use out of.

Batlav if you’re using any kind of decent DPS weapon ( so only shortbow), then you’re only using auto attack.
Electro, rangers don’t get a second health bar. Necromancers get a second health bar.
Dear fellow Ranger souls out there, I do realise this is a major issue and therefore it’s been already mentioned and monitored in the following thread :

You’d be more than welcome to join in and post your ideas, thoughts and feedback in general, so we can make it functional in the future !

Im Longbow user so pet do much less compared to my dmg but i guess you are right
pets should add a lil bit not to be half of our dmg since they are dead all the time
if your pet is dead half the time you really need to learn to use F4 outside of bosses in dungeons i rarely ever see my pet actually die, they get close but troll ungent and a dog and it seems to survive forever, Pathing is my biggest complaint why cant they jump off a small ledge like i can why do they have to go all the way around in clock tower to get at an enemy i am fighting from the window cant they use the crates as stairs for godsakes
my pet only dies when i want to, you know why? it is on passive..call me noob but as a glass cannon ranger the pet is useful only when he is out of trouble, f2 and protect me that’s the maximum i can get from a pet right now, and yes i have tried a “beast master signet” build, didn’t work that well since it has good synergy with GS 5 ability and sword/horn and we all know sword MH is a cat puppy
