It seems like when I have the Opening Strike boon (which as far as I know applies 5 stacks of venerability for 5 seconds) doesn’t actually apply a condition to your opponent.

Likewise, the trait Remorselessness which refreshes your Opening Strike doesn’t work right at all. I just don’t see my boon re-applied or anything applied to my opponent.

Anyone else having this issues? Am I missing how this mechanic works?

Opening Strikes has a maximum range of 900, which is quite silly when it’s in the tree with the 1500 range Longbow. Move closer and you’ll see it working.

Remorseless I really don’t know about. I rarely see it work, so your guess is as good as mine. I’m willing to bet it has the same range handicap.

The whole mechanic is underwhelming. 30 points in Marksmanship for 1 free crit and Hunter’s Shot per fight is sad. It’s complete trash when compared to the swiftness/fury on weapon swap and quickness on pet swap.

This is an old topic. This does not address what I am addressing, this, straight up, doesn’t work. This topic goes on about how it only has a range of 900 and some other stuff.

Where do they get this? I don’t see Open Strike working AT ALL. Not at 900, not at 1500, not at 1. I don’t see a condition applied, or boons doing their job.

Go play your Ranger, and test what I am saying right now. There is no signs of Opening Strikes applying or doing anything to my targets.

Edit: Seems like it may not be 100% broken, but this has only worked about 10% of the time I try to apply it, and I am MAKING SURE I am withing 900 every time I have attempted this

Remorseless triggered on actual enemies (I used the ghosts in the southeast corner), but not the target golems.

I have no idea, this is breaking and fixing on me. I can’t seem to pinpoint why this isn’t working as well for me.

There where other skills, that worked in PVP and didnt work in PVE. That would explain why it worked for you.

@Brooksy: What weapons did you use? With the shortbow it doesnt seem to work for me either (might apply bleed instead not 100% sure) (even in 900 range or below) the reapplying is working but running out about 1 sec afterwards, wich should is a bug aswell i guess/hope.

I am using a Longbow. I also tried with Axe/Warhorn. Both gave me poor results, I didn’t really try any others.

What enemies did you test on? Considering how I noticed Remorseless didn’t work on the test golems, I’m beginning to wonder if Opening Strikes is bugged on certain enemies.

Also, are the attacks hitting? Sometimes if the enemy moves, the pet’s attack fails and loses the buff. Likewise, some enemies can avoid the Longbow’s shots if they move sideways as it comes towards them, extremely common in PvP.

If you haven’t done so already, test on the golems in the Heart of the Mists.

I tried on various Undead mobs outside Arah. I didn’t really experiment too much outside that yet as I did a lot of farm runs and I’m going to level an alt right now. I’ll do more testing on this and see if I can get a word from Arena or anyone else to see what the status of this mechanic is, because it seems very off.

I also noticed Potion bugs today, very annoying.

I tested this yesterday on Bandits with a Shortbow and the Vulnerability most definitely wasn’t working even when at point-blank range for my first attack.

I tested it with the Grubs in the fields in the southern parts of Gendarran Fields. Seemed to work with the axe most of the time. With the shortbow it didnt (at point blank range) and i dont think they evaded the pets attack. i hope the gets fixed soon

So this seems to be a real big glitch in the programming with Range, Mobs, and your Weapon effecting if this will work at all.

I’m discovering a lot more bugs with how stacks and mechanics work, but I wasn’t expecting perfection on a less than a month old game.

I’ve bug reported this multiple times and as of last patch (October 7th, I believe for the Americas) Opening Strike is still broken. :-( Boo-urns.
