So does anyone feel like opening strike is taking too long to recharge? Its taking 8-9 seconds to recharge starting from when I get out of combat. I think it should recharge instantly if you get out of combat :/

Well, Remorseless is pretty kittenty, so maybe it’s to make it more appealing? Kind of the way they smashed the shortbow with the nerfbat to make the longbow more appealing instead of just actually making the longbow more appealing.

They did make longbow more appealing.

  • Autoattack cycle time was reduced from 1.25 sec to 1.0 sec, a 25% DPS increase.
  • Rapid Fire’s duration was compressed from 5.0 to 4.5 sec, making up most of the ground loss due to autoattack DPS increase.
  • The cripple duration on Barrage was increased from 1.0 sec to 1.75 sec per wave.

The autoattack DPS increase alone was enough to make longbow a viable weapon. Not a great weapon, but a viable one. Even if shortbow were returned to 1200 range (with Eagle Eye) I would use the two about equally now, instead of 100% shortbow like before the June 2013 update.

I’m all for complaining about the broken things, but let’s not wallow in negativity to the point that we forget the things that were fixed.

Yeah, they did improve the longbow in a seperate patch (I think but not sure), but when they nerfed the shortbow range the Dev said it was specifically to make the longbow look better.

If they up’d it back to 1200 via EE I would only use the LB @ golem ii and claw of jormag. Every place else I’d go back to SB.

RNG is a bell curve. Better hope you’re on the right side.

Trait for regaining opening strike on enemy kill or gaining stealth if you’re not running a signet build. First I do Long Range Shot, Opening Strike Included, then, I do Hunter’s Shot to regain Opening Strike afterwards using Rapid Fire. 25stacks of Vulnerability = high damage.
Although having my signets effect me has a lot of great benefits, I only use one so I’d rather go with regaining my opening strike. If you decide to use this trait and the aforementioned chain of attacks, you can stack a lot of vuln and tick some pretty decent numbers.
25 stacks of vulnerability = 25% incoming damage.

Yeah, but by the time you are done channeling LB #2 your vul stacks are already coming off… which is why I still hate that change they have done.

To OP: I am sorry for continuing this off-topic discussion in your thread, but I really think some of the negativity in this forum needs to be countered.

It was the same patch. Rangers just think it’s a different patch because after being outraged at the shorbow range nerf, their selective memory prevented them from remembering the good in the patch.

Yes they nerfed the shortbow range to make longbow more attractive. That doesn’t mean they nerfed SB solely to make LB more attractive. I didn’t like the shortbow range nerf either (SB was what I used 90% of the time pre-patch), but I agreed with it. When I tested, if you can flank the target SB does almost as much DPS as sword. That’s insane if it has 1200 range (more actually since before the patch, you could fire beyond 1200 range by manually pressing 1, just like you currently can with LB). It needed to be nerfed.

The tweaks they did to LB put it in a good place. Its autoattack (at 1000+ range) now out-DPSes SB unless you can can flank. 0.9 every 1 sec = 0.9/s for LB direct damage. 0.4 every 0.51 sec = 0.78/s for SB. It’s a good opening weapon to eat away a good chunk of a target’s hp before they/you close and you swap to melee weapons.

Remake Opening Strike Trait as a special ability to Ranger instead of a trait

Goal of Proposal
To make Rangers weapon skills more and more useful in starting a fight

Proposal Functionality
Make this trait become a special ability to Ranger.
With this special ability, all Ranger weapon skill 1 will have a special skill when Ranger is out of combat.

Its very similar to Thief’s “Stealth Attacks”, but one is in stealth, another one is out of combat.

For example:
1H Sword skill 1:
Opening leap – Opening strike. Leap into the fight, crippling your foe.
Crippled: 5 s
Combo Finisher: Leap
Range: 600
Which can make Sword Ranger has a REAL opening strike, instead of walking slowly to reach the target.

Axes skill 1:
Cunning throw – Opening strike. Hit up to three foes with a single throw The first target is stunned, the second is Confused, and the third inflicts weakness.
Stun: 1 s
Confusion3: 5 s
Weakness: 5 s
Maximum targets: 3
Combo Finisher: Physical Projectile (20% chance)
Range: 900
It is not too OP for the axe weapon skill set combo with any offhand weapon.
Stun = Ranger starts the fight first instead of the foe
Confusion = the second foe may not want to take risk to attack ranger
Weakness = the third foe deal less damage in this opening fight
Which can show that who is the boss in starting the fight

Greatsword skill 1
Bouncing Blade – Opening strike. Throw a greatsword to a target and bounce back to you, damaging the foe and giving fury to you.
Fury: 5 s
Combo Finisher: Physical Projectile
Range: 600
Greatsword Ranger loves fury.

Short bow skill 1
Torment Shot – Opening strike. Shoot an arrow that your foe inflicts torment.
Torment5: 5s
Combo Finisher: Physical Projectile
Range: 900
It’s more useful than vulnerability in using short bow, short bow is use for kiting.
This would be the first Ranger skill to apply torment condition.

Longbow skill 1
Penetrating Attack – Opening strike. The foe inflict vulnerability, the longer range deals the higher stacks of vulnerability.
0-500 range: Vulnerability4 : 5 s
500-1000 range: Vulnerability5 : 5 s
1000+ range: Vulnerability6 : 5 s
Combo Finisher: Physical Projectile (20% chance)
Range: 1,200
No differences but added the range condition.

It will be good to interact with related traits:
Opening strike always critical hits.
Regain Opening Strike whenever you kill a foe or gain stealth.
Pets have Opening Strike. (We can also make pets to have special opening skills)

Associated Risks
Need a 10s Cool Down, even if the skill hit is miss,
or it will make Ranger spamming these skills.
(Just like Thief in stealth mode and spam his skill 1 when he hits miss until he hit)
