I have tried out several setups/builds and can’t seem to find one that best fits me, I would like to know my options for WvW roles, be it rollin with a Zerg or Roaming, just would like to know where we fit in, and how to best do that.

I tend to be liking the faster weapons like the one handers and the SB because of its speed. I just know I can’t afford the Apoth accessories, so maybe do some sort of power/crit build instead, until prices go down on those accessories?

Thanks!

For fast and easy you could run cof for carrion gears. If you go carrion, I recommend dogs. Sword/dagger and axe/torch seem logical here, along with offhand training. Your healing power is low so don’t even use many BM points. You’ll get mileage out of NM and spirits if you wanted maybe a longbow/condi direction. If not, consider MM and signet of the beastmaster with signet of stone. In fact, something like 30/x/30/x/x should work well here. That’s all I got, anyone else care to chime in?

Great help Sir Chopps!

Looks very promising do you have Sigil/Rune advice as well? Is 1200 Condi Dmg good or should it be higher, and any tactics/tricks to using this to its upmost quality?

Thanks!

If I was going for Condi dmg I’d just go rabid armor, I’ve done the vitality armor same spec as Chopps said and it definetly can work. I just liked the rabid gear better myself. If you want power/crit you could try running knight/zerker mixture suit and spec accordingly. Can still be good dmg with a shortbow and when you use a 1h sword its good dmg aswell. You might not survive as long as a knight/cleric mix but its still decent.

I totally agree. The only drawback is spending karma and running TA. I personally prefer rabid but as other professions start trying condi’s more in wvw, carrion will balance out more I suspect.

As I recall Zho’s armor is affordable, and offers 224 Power, 224 Toughness, 315 Healing. That’s what I started with for my BM bunker (0 0 20 20 30). It comes with Runes of the Flock, which aren’t ideal, but do bump Healing power by 90.

As far as where we fit in in wvw, most say Rangers are best suited to solo/small group stuff, and that’s been my experience, too. I typically only join large groups for defensive efforts or major offensive pushes. Nice thing about a bunker is if you’re careful, keep your eyes open and your GS handy, you can (depending on tier and map somewhat) move around the map by yourself without getting into anything you can’t handle or run away from, and you can shrug of a lot of damage in big fights.

That being said, some people prefer high-condi builds and/or traps, and others like high Marksmanship, Piercing Arrows and Sigil of Fire for zerg fighting. There are at least handful of decent, different ways play Ranger in WvW. For me, when I started I got killed so many times that learning a bunker build pretty much sold me for good on it, but that’s just a matter of personal preference.

Thats pretty much what I run, with relatively good success.

As for my role, I am able to split the enemy group into smaller groups by selective fire, and I do decent damage (~1500-1800 per crit of SB + Sigil of Fire Proc + piercing arrows). This strategy applies to almost any group size, so can work effectively in a lot of different situations. By breaking up the enemy group into smaller, more focused portions, AoEs can be more consistently applied to the same targets. So, pretty much everything I do is with that in mind. The overall process is; flank, break up group into smaller portions, then distract as much fire as possible while ideally surviving to do it over again.

I also like to use food and suggest it strongly. I went for omnom berry pie and master maintenance oil. Just adds some to the damage, and increases healing for a higher crit build.

is roughly what I run (I think a couple pieces might be different, cant check right now).

I frequently will run with a Superior Sigil of Perception on one or both weapons until I have a full stack, then I switch for what you see in the build as you still retain the buff until downed.

I think the best thing to do is try out different ways of playing, and see what works best for you. I frequently find myself starting off a class as a bunker and slowly working towards more damage. There are a lot of different ways to approach even a single role.

Basically, you have two things to balance; damage and survivability. They are both done different ways and finding the right balance for you and your playstyle takes some messing around.
