PSA: 1h Sword tip
ive been doing this the entire time, holding the direction i want to go, regardless of the skill chain. i also tested dodging while in the leap and diddnt have much of an issue with just the plain old auto attack.

It’s really just a hurdle that a lot of people don’t feel the need to overcome just for one weaponset (I think of it as the simple control scheme on Marvel vs Capcom 3 where you can just press one button and the game does entire combo chains for you, versus using standard controls to be able to make your own combos that are even better than the preset ones in simple mode).

As I said in another post;
Thank you. I needed a perfect example of how it’s, “With my skill and tricks I made a weapon not be absolute garbage.” instead of “With my skill and tricks I turned a good weapon into an amazing one.”
~Thanks.
We shouldn’t be content with our tricks and skill making weapons not kitten. They should already be good weapons and we should make them amazing.
Are you saying to hold down one of the directional keys and hit the dodge button? I’m not following you. I usually have AA turned off but would turn it back on if this works.

I usually hold left or right during the whole time.
Another sword tip: for Hornet Sting – Monarch’s Leap.
I’m sure a lot of you already know this, but i often see people turn and face someone they already have targeted, before they use HS to get away. Like when outnumbered in WvW and you want to get out of there.
You can actually use HS while you’re running away from someone, without the need to stop and turn. Either if you have a target before you start running, or if you look behind while you’re running and target someone behind you (I have “look behind” bound to “v”).
If you use HS while running and have a target behind you, you will leap forward, away from the target and in the same direction you’re running. Then you can lose your target and hit ML to leap again in the same direction.
It works even as far as the target range limit.
Every split second counts in WvW.

You can’t dodge during or in between sword 2 and 3 animations with auto attack on if you are stuck to your target (ie: in range of landing attacks). It is possible if you turn off auto attacks and move, or interrupt the attack chain but that hardly constitutes as successfully auto attacking.
After 3 and during 1 is totally fine though.
I would be really curious to see someone prove otherwise.
