With my current play style, I tend to sit right at the max range and act as sniper support. I mostly solo run maps, events, etc…unless it involves a champ or higher…I tend to end up breaking the ‘leash’ and resetting the boss in those case.

My pet of choice: Polar Bear. I use it to draw aggro while I stay back and fire away. I use a fire wyrven as backup, but due to its F2 skill breaking taunt it hold on enemies, it is more of an event pet.

In my current state, one round of Rapid Fire hits up to about 6-8k easy, 20k on certain WB phases. My standard fighting, however, is not so great…especially against mobs in HoT. With that, I am open to suggestions as to how to improve my overall damage, while keeping a decent defense if I need to switch to melee.

Is there any reason why you’re not running full zerk or a more damaging pet?

Tried zerker, and I felt like a glass cannon. Pet wise, bear is for solo. He’s bait.

I’ve considered moving to Marauder or Wanderer’s, for a higher base power rating.

I mean, if you want to be tanky and do damage to mobs, you might want to consider condi ranger. I had one that was geared out in full dire for wvw, but it works fine in HoT content. There’s enough toughness to let you facetank everything.

If you want to improve your personal skill, you have to ditch the playstyle of just using LB 1 and 2 while hiding behind a bear. You could start by using melee only in an easier environment like Orr, preferably in full zerk, and use only skills to survive.

You can always go back to LB, but with a better understanding of the game.

With this kind of build the best way to improve your damage would be using a more offensive gear, your lack of defense is more of a skill problem. The best way to solve a skill problem is removing the training wheels.

With that build you are trying to go everywhere but not reaching anywhere.
You don’t have the power to be sniping anything.
You don’t have cond to sustain your damage.
You don’t have important boons to buff your allies.

I don’t see a purpose for that build, it would be better if you tell us what is your goal and we can help improve it.

My default pet of choice is smokescale, havnt used a bear in maybe a year for a champ solo. I always run full glass zerk, ranger is super survivalable in most scenarios so no reason to not go full glass in pve always.

Zerk or bust in PvE. No reason to run anything else. LB for max range.

Other weapons are whatever suit your play style. I’d run sword warhorn but that is just me. In this game you can PvE naked and do well although there are those who will min, max, and compose a group for speed. Find your group and play on.

Heck, 10 Guardians just posed their raid results. Those poor boys and girls cry louder than we Druids do. can’t be all that bad if 10 of them did a raid together.

if you like being somewhat tanky but still dealing damage. The thing is it’s more about playstyle than gear. if you’re trying to maximize dps LB shouldnt be used for its auto attack. LB#5→lb#2→weapon swap and atk with sword till the lb burst skills are off cooldown. i’d start slowly replacing the celestial trinkets with zerk as you feel more comfortable. in pve WK is useless unless you’re running a condi build, and if you’re running with a group spotter is a really big buff to the groups dps. quickdraw is also a dps gain by reducing cooldowns. NM and BM are basically interchangeable imo, i don’t know the math but i think NM is a bit better for overall dps but i like my pet stronger.

Thank you, everyone. I started eyeing the marauder set after bloodpyrope mentioned zerker. As for my bear, I’ve been wanting to get a smokescale, just haven’t made it to TD on my ranger…yet. Will do that over the next few days.

Just need to restock some mats to get the inscriptions made to regear. I want to see what, if anything, will happen to celestial gear before I dispose of it.

Hold on to your cele gear, especially since it’s very time expensive to make. Its good for WvW.

Rather than maurader, you can get berserker gear for “free” from karma or dungeon tokens. If you have either of those, check it out. If you really can’t get by in berserker, and you can, just add a couple soldier’s trinkets.

I’ll tell you this, I agonized over what to make ascended for a while. I liked part of the Minstrel set, then sinister, vipers, cleric, etc. Then said oh well, make the heavy armor for my Guardian.

Said forget it, Celestial it is and I’ll use the accessories to tweak. That is what I ended up doing along with durability runes. Probably not ideal but seems to work.

Cele gear is somewhat expensive to make and it has its uses just not for PvE currently so hold onto it. Zerker is what you’ll use for almost anything and is inexpensive, for fractals and raids vipers is good too.

You don’t need smokescale, but a tanky pet that still does damage would be drakes.
