Path of Scars?
How much are you hitting for with normal / crit and on what?
I feel that the dmg has gone up slightly, but still not enough to justify running with the off-hand axe.
Before the skill did pretty low damage (around 1-hand sword autoattack).
If you traited Off-Hand Training the damage nearly doubled.
Now you don’t need Off-Hand Training anymore for the skill to do decent damage.
The patch notes went out before the patch itself and I tested it on a LA dummy. Without the “Off-Hand Training” trait it hit twice on the same target for around 500, with the trait it hit once for around 700.
Now, without the trait it hits the dummy once for around 700.
So yeah.. still pretty pointless.

The practice dummies are a bit strange, try the practice targets instead.
Actually both sometimes get hit once and somtimes twice, it works on normal mobs though.
The skill will hit on both ways, it’s actually a really nice AoE weapon.

Oh okay
I hadn’t realized offhand training increased the power of the skill.
On another note, the damage from this skill (if it hits both ways), can get to about 5k. Not too bad.

Question, on the wiki the trait only states it reduces recharge and increase range, where is this damage increase being talked about.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Off-Hand_Training
is the wiki wrong on the description? hidden mechanic?
Could someone post a photo of the trait now if it’s different. please and thank you.
From what I understand the base damage of the axe 4 skill was increased by 85%. Independent from the trait.

Again.
- Before the patch the skill did pretty low damage.
- Before the patch if you traited Off-Hand Training the damage increased by 85 percent. This was not mentioned anywhere.
- After the patch you no longer need Off-Hand Training for the increased damage.
- Before the patch if you traited Off-Hand Training the damage increased by 85 percent. This was not mentioned anywhere.
I guess the next question that comes to mind is: Are there any other off-hand skills which have their damage buffed like this if you have Off-Hand Training traited?

This is a good question and should be tested.

I just checked, it does not.
The reason why Off-Hand Training increased the damage of PoS was the way A-Net handles some traited skills.
There are two different versions of PoS in game, one with a range of 900 and another with a range of 1200 (and a shorter cooldown)
This can be proven if you throw any version of the skill and (un)trait Off-Hand Training, the skill will be off cooldown immediately.
Sometime between the first beta weekend (when I played Ranger for the first time) and November/December last year (when I started playing Ranger on the live servers) the PoS-900 skill got nerfed hard, but A-Net forgot to nerf the PoS-1200 version.

So they goofed up a nerf, then decided to un-nerf the skill later on? makes sense

We are talking about ArenaNet here

Lol I wasn’t joking, I mean’t it was a sensible explanation for what was being discussed XD

That’s very insightful. Thanks.
It does mean however that we need to go and check all skills whose cooldown changes when traited. Maybe some of those traited versions survived the nerf bat after beta.
Just heard on another thread that the radius of Bonfire is increased when this trait is slotted.

It does, but that is also a direct effect of the description. However, that brings the question to mind, does it make the radius/hit range for offhand axe 5 larger as well?
