Hey guys , after first reading the patch notes i was in a state of shock regarding the complete lack of thought on the developers part , and yelled and cursed at them . But after talking to some of my fellow rangers, i have come the conclusion that is , in fact , I who am in the wrong . Maybe , just maybe , this is the first step to further tweaks for the Ranger yet to come , whatever they may be … One can hope .

So having this in mind , i have decided to compile a smallish list of things that i have been thinking about on ranger traits and some other things to improve the class and make it a bit more reliable in all avenues of play without stepping on things that are obviously the developers cemented designed choices .

Pets hitting moving targets
-Set up pet attack range to 30 but maximum attack range to 130 . This way pets that start their attack animation will hit moving targets more reliably if their attack animation is fast enough , and you wont be able to simply circle strafe them all the time . One would have to use more cripples, slows or dodges and not ignore it anymore .
I feel as if this would be in line with the toning down of pet burst that is obviously in the works , but would add considerable reliability to the mechanic

torch
-give a BLIND to the “throw torch” skill
-perhaps give “vigor or retaliation” for a few seconds when staying inside “bonfire”

shortbow
-if the range nerf holds true , then the bow has not been compensated fairly well . Perhaps give a cooldown reduction buff to some of its abilities like “evasive shot” or “crippling shot”

Imho , the torch is fairly one-dimensional . It is apply burning, and then apply more burning . Far from being a bad weapon , i just feel as if it needs a bit more OOOMPH to it to make it a bit more tactical .

traits

-combine “speed training” and “commanding voice” into a single trait

-“masters bond” gives a flat 10% PRIMARY stat bonus of the rangers stats to the pet thus fixing pet non scalability in PvE and WvW . This would be by definition nerfed in PvP as there is far less total stats available there .

-move “expertise training” (pet condition damage trait) into beastmastery and buff it and “compassion training” to give a 500 instead of a 350 bonus

-remove family requirements from the master traits in the BM line . Rending attacks no longer need to crit for bleed

This would , of course require a new WS adept trait , but i wont be going into that

Skill5 Torch “Bonfire” can chain to “black out” Distrub(cancle) AoE bonfire cure burn and cure1condition to friend and give instant overall burning dmg to FoE
(EX
if FoE have5sec of burning and1sec tic300dmg FoE will not suffer for burn and take pure dmg from 5sec instant you got1500dmg.If FoE not have burning no DMG.)

I think one thing that should be changed is many pets need bigger incentives to use them, as it is now it’s very clear cut what you should bring as I see it if you want damage no pet comes even remotely close to cats, if you need aoe nothing comes close to drakes.

To start I think all low damage tanky pets should have a cleave just like drakes, then you’d have much better options you could stick with drake for better burst with their F2s or pick a bear for the ultimate tank that still wouldn’t be hopelessly behind in killing ability, pigs would end up somewhere in the middle and so on.

More dps oriented pets should be included in rending attacks I think to give a little dps boost making them less behind the cats and if not then atleast they would need a boost in utility, raven for example even though it has the same stats as a cat is hugely behind in dps because of flipping and flopping around more than attacking they could maybe have a blind on their swoop that would be a really good utility but on an 8s cd I don’t think it would be too much only just enough to make you want to use them despite the lower damage.

Something like that would open up more of the pets to use them for their actual ability skills uptil now the only one that really did that was the wolf in my opinion, he was always well behind cats in damage but his utility and survivability was good enough that many used them anyway.

Torch is fine, just up your condition damage.
