Perma Remove Pet Option
My Youtube Channel
^ This. I hate how useless the pet is in WvW groups/zergs. All I want is to prevent anyone getting an easy kill off my pet. I would like to get rid of it sometimes and get a buff. That would do nicely
Ugh god, this thread gets made once a day.
The pet is never going away. Ranger is the GW2 pet class, they should have named it beastmaster. Deal with it or play warrior.

The fact that the thread gets made at least once a day, by different users I might add, should be an abundantly clear indication for A-net that the pet is a handicap and not the benefit it was supposed to be.
Like many things in this world it looked great on paper but in practice turned out to be a horrible idea.
Oh, and a Warrior is a completely different animal than a Ranger. Thief D/D+SB is the only thing that comes close to being as fun as a melee Ranger. If you’re telling people to play a warrior it is painful obvious that you, yourself, have never touched a warrior because if you had you’d already know they are no where near the same type of playstyle… so… QFT.

I have looked in the traits… and I am not impressed by a semi-controllable character that I have little use for. I would prefer a buff to my personal stats then drag a pet around Tyria. And after power leveling my Ranger to 80 the past few weeks… I sentiments remain. Infact, during boss fights, I place my Sylvari Hound on avoid combat and just spam the heal on c/d. yippie…
And the fact this gets brought up all the time, good sign indicator that changes need to be made. And a toggle off button and stat boost I find is the only fix. Like I said, GW1 had the option to go pet less. Yes the system was different by adding one of two different skills. But an “OFF” switch can be just as effective. And I have been testing the whole GW2 Ranger pet thing since I tried a Ranger out all the way back at PAX East in a private demo… wasn’t impressed then, still not impressed years later.
They pull too much aggro, no positioning, meager damage output that can be added to the Ranger directly. Dont get me wrong, I love love love the Ranger profession with the Sword/Axe and Bow combo. And I love the build I have on her dealing 100% crit chances. But the pet is just annoying to micro manage. Especially when it gets stuck on a roof of a building during a fight… so useful…

I do the same in WvW, except with a Red Moa for Fury.

You’re right, the pet can’t be stowed permanently or 30% of our traits stop working (24 out of 80).
So instead, the pet should give a buff if it’s not in combat (a pet on “Avoid combat”-mode stays out of combat).
the Pet system really needs to be fix more than just instant-casted on the F2 skill. Another option besides Perm-stow, is to increase the Pet strength by ALOT. if you are gonna be a Pet-type profession with your pet being where most of your Damage is coming from, then it cant be dead it 2 shoots. You are severely weaken as a Profession, fighting at half strength.
Yes, I know there are work around for the Pet, and I have seen good rangers without pets. but you have them for a reason, even if you don’t like them, so either stow them and give a stats boost back to the Ranger. or toughen them up.
just my 2 cents
We need a perma stow for some situation. Jumping puzzle, some boss achievements (scarlet -.-) and other situations where the pet is a hindrance,
And we need a new playstyle with a passive pet. New pet-skills in passive mode. Pets should use buff-shouts while in passive mode. ANet said, we can play Pet inactive, just use passive mode. But in this mode we lose the half of our power.
With this two options we can play “without” a pet in every situation and the ranger is still a beastmaster.
but but by doing this means Anet openly admit that their ranger mechanic design is a total failure QAQ
To summarise:
1. This thread happens a lot.
2. In the CDI an AN representative said it’s not an option.
3. But by all means feel free to keep posting it (serious). At the very least it’s a constant reminder to AN to either fix pets (viable in top content) or remove them. Or even make an “archer” class without them while keeping Ranger.
/thread
I would like to see the cooldown penalty for pet death reduced from 1 minute to around 40s untraited.
It would also be nice for the pet AI to include backing out of damaging aoe circles independently, rather than having to position yourself and call back/send in again to save them.
Finally a pet stat boost would also be good.
Edit: I would also like to see pets given two dodges and an endurance bar, with different rates of endurance regen (ie birds faster compared to bears), and for them to actively dodge attacks. Only affected by ranger through vigour and fortifying bond.
Regarding pet removal – if sub classes are ever considered in the future, then it could be an option for two possible ways to play the same class – and the class mechanic is changed accordingly. This would of course require an alternate set of traits for each class – something I can’t see happening in the near future.

…but it is a total failure. Some games have good pet classes, but this game is not one of them.
my pet is a love-hate relationship, sometimes im glad to have it there as an extra source of damage (like when im 1vX-ing (1-4)), but sometimes (like zerg vs. zerg) I wish it wasn’t there at all
the bad thing about pets is that they’re single target, I just wish we’d scale up in places like WvW to make up for the lost stats (and damage too)
also, pets are almost fully AI except for their f2 ability
they didn’t even make it so that we can literally control every action they carry out, this makes it so everyone is pretty much even all across the game and doesn’t allow the better players to shine through because of their prowess with controlling a second character (the pet)
instead of giving us control over our pets’ 4 attacks, give them 5 attacks, 3 utilities, and have an option to keep it as an AI. this makes it so we can choose between having a purely computer controlled pet vs. one that we control ourselves (with more keybinds of course) haha

I love my Ranger. I love the slippery Sword/Axe comboed with the range of the Longbow with things get unsafe for me. I love the speed, mobility and slick move along with the power and AoE spikes that it gives.
HOWEVER…
Comming from an old pro original Guild Wars, I miss the ability to remove the pet completely. In Guild Wars 2, the pet becomes more of a hinderence then a help. Pulling bad agro, no spike potential, ect. For me, it becomes this giant mini pet.
In the original game, I was optional to take a pet with you via a skill on the bar which later was combined with another skill to make it multi purposed. I was wondering if this was possiable for GW2… to make it so you can “un-equip” a pet and just go solo. if need be, have a 10% buff when going without a pet and rework a couple of the pet dependent skills? I know a bunch of people that feel the same about this.
Thanks for the consideration guys! and What up Iggy!
I am so tired of losing my target for two reasons – agro “npcs” (even though I am targeting a PERSON in WvW) and my pet goes for the WRONG person or an NPC I didn’t target.

It’s easy to perma stow the pet. Go back to the character creation screen and select Warrior.

i mained ranger in gw1 too , and i found it way to easy without a pet and in gvg it reduced my pressure effectiveness , sicking the pet on a lowly monk forcing him to use mana on himself rather than full heals on the team.
but when i did take off the pet yes the damage improved but so did the mana consumption , so that needed lower cost skills and the old quicken zypher , dodge skills to deal with the extra agro , so in the end having a pet for damage and control , agro or pressure or take two skills to deal with the additional people chasing you because they have less to focus on.
so for that reason i see why they added perm pets in pvp terms it means we have the utlity of both of the above situations when taking damaging utlities , that nearly all of the evading/trap utlities do some damage. its not about the numbers but how you use that machanic to influance the direction of the match/fight through pet use and control effect skills thats what made the gw1 bunny thumper so strong both hard cc and near 100% control from the hammer attacks.
pets grant us the chance to be precise in our movements , if it wasn’t there you’ll be pressured into oblivion beacause 1 . no fear 2. no drake cones to protect you while your rooted. 3. no knockdowns on swap demand 4. there won’t be any left or right when the target is trying to avoid your pets attack chains they will B-line right for you and pressure till you die.
even if you did whats going to replace those pet skills knockdowns, extra bleeds and aoe tail swipes.
10% would be a understatment , that would be a class redesgin and i don’t think the championship teams would be happy with that change.
same ideal for gw2 influance the fight/control don’t make it abvous your trying to control them use the pet to force them to move. he kites left , swap pet so the new one is infront of his face and about to pounce on it, while you kite away with a grin.
atleast its not a mindless flesh golem where you have no control of where its going the ai for pets has improved a lot of the last year.

They don’t aggro, they can spike (in different ways). They seriously can, and you don’t even have to enter combat. What is in “etc” ? You can’t just write “etc” to tell us that there are “many more things”.

You try to write like a journalist but fail at statistics. The forum does in no way reflect the ranger community or any other professions’s community. The real problem is that there is a huge step between a ranger being Skilled or just Casual.
Casual players can’t use the pets properly for things like Knockdown → 6s Immobilise → 2s stun (this was just an example out of many) and don’t have the ability to pay attention to the fight, the skills the foe uses, the surroundings and the pet at the same time.
There is a difference between first impression and experience. There is also a difference between complaining and trying.
ANet make the ranger and say “ehi, we have in mind to make 8 classes, but we like to create the archer and the summoner. But we have not enough classes to make the both. We have fuse that two classes to make you able to play as a archer and as a summoner! Isn’t that a greath thing?”
And we’re all f****
Dps ranger isn’t good whi you’re so easy to kill that if a thief see you in wvsw it’s esey shines of evil purposes. 2 seconds later you’re dead.
Whit the ranger you’0ve a pet and it’s your power! In 1vs1 (expecially in spvp) if you play as a supporter/beastmaster/condi you can kill a large amount of classes. I’ve killet 2 enemy at once the first time I try it in spvp!!!
But in Dungeon, wvsw, pve megaevent, spvp when you’re in the middle of the fight (es 4vs4), your pet is so useless that you hope it die quickly.
We’re ranger. Our pet is our strenght. Our pet is our riun.
(p.s. sorry for my bad english)

ANET has done it before… it called evolving the game to a better one. See Multi Class Combos in GW1…

I dont particularly care for your candid response… and no… this is not “/thread”. Show me you have the ability to lock this thread. If not, moving on.
Deal with it or play warrior.

Seriously… thats your solution? Roll a new toon that has completely different mechanics, conditions and sub abilities? Warrior =/= Ranger even by just the removal of the pet. I’ll take my Sword/Axe & Long Bow Ranger with opening strike and poisons and other nifty features any day over my Axe/Axe and Rifle Warrior… Not because one it better then the other… but as a player, one is more exciting and dynamic to play as then the other. And I just feel the Pet for me, adds no flavor to my tasty Ranger dish… Agree with me, disagree with me, fake thread lock… that is my opinion and suggestion. Option for perma pet stowage, make the traits effect the Ranger more. Reroll a Warrior… seriously…

I don’t see why having an extra source of damage is such a big deal, if you really don’t like the pet system then set it to passive and use them only for F2, if they die then congratulations, you will feel the loss of DPS one way or another.
