Lot’s of these but here goes anyway.

Did Anet actually look at the mythology of Druids before deciding to make them a healer? Only thing centering around healing was their knowledge of plants and herbs.
To quote “History and Myths of Celtic Druidism”
“Though, druids could heal, using some sort of magic or just using herbs, it was mainly the work of physicians.”

It was their knowledge of nature and their supposed abilities to use magic based on nature, understanding of animals, and the fact that they were considered prophetic that made them powerful in their culture.

And what about the legends that they were shape shifters and could also change OTHER PEOPLE into animals? That was where their real power lay. Imagine that as a power. Change an ally into a rampaging drake with temporary special abilities, or change an opponent into a lesser threat, even if only for a few seconds. Now THAT would be something.

On another note, they were worshippers of fire and supposedly had special powers in that area too. Would like to see the flaming arrows of the original GW come back, along with some other fire abilities attached to using the bow or mastery skills.

And by the way, they used wands, not staffs.

I for one, would prefer to see the healing aspect dumped and a more historically correct Druid be brought into play. Keep the existing Ranger healing as that is more based on nature anyway, but don’t turn them into an area healer.

If you want to boost healing you basically have what D&D players would consider a Paladin in the Guardian. Go that route. In my opinion, the current path for the Druid is making the Ranger a much less desirable character class.

They aren’t based on earth druids, they’re based on the GW1 druids. Yes all RPG druids have their origins in earth druids, but GW2 druids are about 4 layers removed from that. If anet wanted them to change gender every 4 seconds, that would be canon for them.

There are many thing in Tyria that are not correct when comparing to earth mythology. Norns for example. “The Norns in Norse mythology are female beings who rule the destiny of gods and men” (wikipedia). Soo… Norns are supposed to be above gods and there should be no male norns. Also, the 3 most important norns are called jotuns and these 3 jotuns take care of the Yggdrasil, the tree that connects the worlds. And what you know, druids staff is called Yggdrasil…

You are a little too late. Plus, to apply exact “real world” logic to the GW2 matrix is just unreasonable. There are already many connections that make logical sense, and all ideas are a mix of reality, legends and fantasy…

Also…

“According to historian Ronald Hutton, “we can know virtually nothing of certainty about the ancient Druids, so that—although they certainly existed—they function more or less as legendary figures.”20 However, the sources provided about them by ancient and medieval writers, coupled with archaeological evidence, can give us an idea of what they might have performed as a part of their religious duties."

Edit-I do like the quoted part below… Devs we need main hand dagger. Also a version of “Heartseeker”… Make all dagger attacks function better than the Thief while we have Druid elite active, and have the blood sacrifice of our enemies build up “something something force” for our version of “Continuum Shift” abilities.

Yay for historics!!!

“Diodorus Siculus asserts that a sacrifice acceptable to the Celtic gods had to be attended by a Druid, for they were the intermediaries between the people and the divinities. He remarked upon the importance of prophets in Druidic ritual:

“These men predict the future by observing the flight and calls of birds and by the sacrifice of holy animals: all orders of society are in their power… and in very important matters they prepare a human victim, plunging a dagger into his chest; by observing the way his limbs convulse as he falls and the gushing of his blood, they are able to read the future.”
There is archaeological evidence from western Europe that has been widely used to back up the idea that human sacrifice was performed by the Iron Age Celts."
