Q:

Hello fellow Rangers,

First of a disclaimer , as a long time GW 1 (Ranger ) player i might come across a bit jaided towards the choices made for the GW 2 Ranger. Seccond my grammar is horrific.

On topic,

By making it impossible for us to stow/unequip our pets Anet have made it clear to us
that they envision the Pet to be an essential part of our Profession. In response to this (afther playing the game from beta) i ask, why are we not allowed to customize our pet?

The single most fun i had in GW 1 was finding pets and then training them towards a specific role. Why then are not given this opportunity in GW2? Since it can be argued that the Ranger in GW2 is much more dependent on a good pet system then the GW 1 Ranger.

I’m not even talking about the rediculus placements of Trait lines , or the pet’s lack of AI in GW2 , Just the fact that we could, no we should have the customization options
to train our Pets. Dire Wolfs, Hearty Bears , Eldar Eagles etc

So my fellow Rangers , tell me am I completely wrong? Right or some where in the middle?

I would prefer the old Dire/Elder/Hearty system to what we have now.

Pets should be more about looks than what family lines have as far as stats. Bears can tear open cars to get at a sandwich, I should be able to have one that hits as such.

If I can’t tell what a player’s stats are by their equipment, they shouldn’t be able to tell what my pet’s are by it’s model.

I like the idea of ol’ gw1 dire/elder/hearty, or at least alter the specs of the existing pets. For example maybe brown bear has a higher attack power than the polar bear, which might be higher at condition damage etc… Current skin changes to justify a different F2 could just be the beginning. I also agree with the notion of not knowing what kind of damage is coming your way. Opponents should be familiar enough by what F2 to expect, leave the stats a mystery…

GW1 wasn’t limited to just those three, there was also Aggressive and Playful (less boost than dire/hearty but less drawback too) but yeah, I’d LOVE to have a pet bear that can actually tear things apart like they should be and not be stuck with what’s essentially a Hearty Bear…

They sing dark, delicious notes about power and family.
As their mother, I have to grant them their wish. – Forever Fyonna

Dear lord no. Pet evolution was the thing I (as a casual player) hated most about GW1 ranger. It contradicts the GW1 tenet that stat/skill choice and player ability should matter most, by tying the effectiveness of your pet to how many hours you played (if a pet didn’t evolve as you wanted, you had to start over and level a new pet).

I am all for being able to customize pets and pet abilities to some extent. But it should not be based on playing a lot of hours. Some of us don’t have time to play Tamagotchi in order get the pet we want. I’m sorry if you found that aspect of the game fun. But please realize that for many of us it was a millstone around our neck. If they did bring it back, it should only result in ~5% change in pet stats at best (i.e. +/- 2.5%), in line with ascended equipment vs exotic. Not the huge +/- 15% swing it had in GW1.

I understand your viewpoint (since i to am a more cassual player) , however it was also possible to let NPC’s train your pet. Perhaps including this could make it more appealing for most players.

@ Durzlla.6295 ,

I’m sorry for not being clear, Hearty Elder Agressive etc these are all options for all different sorts of pets.

@ The rest thanks for sharing your thoughts.

I was actually sorely disappointed there wasn’t SOME kind of pet evolution (whether simply cosmetic or whatever). It would have brought at least a tad of attachment to the pets you’d use instead of the throwaways they are currently.

We should have the ability to choose pet skins, stats and F2 skill separately, depending on family.

In the Pet selection screen, they would need to implement four drop down boxes with Family, Skin, stat set and F2 Skill. Like choosing stats on a legendary.

So, any pet can have any stat set you want, but the F2 skills and skin must come from the same family.

ie If you choose Feline, then the next drop box lists all the feline models/skins. Then you can pick the stats you like and an F2 skill from that family, eg Feline-Snow Leopard-Rabid-Rending Pounce. Or Canine-Wolf-Assassin-Howl of the Pack. Or Bird-Hawk-Soldier-Chilling Slash.

These changes would open up a HUGE amount of variety for the Ranger and make it much more enjoyable to play as having customisable pets is a big part of the fun!

I agree with everything above in 100%. I love wolfs and ravens – but they are usless in PvE, so im stuck with Jaguar and Moas… I woulb be so glad if I could change my pets stats and abilitys.
