So Rangers are getting a Gm beastmaster trait that causes 2 seconds of taunt when you use the pets f2 skill. As we know, taunt causes an enemy to involuntarily run at you attacking (lol for reef drakes confusion f2 am I right?) so, what about the juvenile wolf?

The F2 for the wolf is a fear. So if you cast the fear (that makes them run away) what will the taunt do? Which of the CC conditions will override the other? Will it be random as to which happens or will one always be superior and override the other? Or will they simply stand there in a non-functioning state?

On that same note, if a necro fears an enemy and you taunt them at the same time what will happen?

the first question is actually something i’d like to know, myself

on fear vs taunt in general, though, i’d imagine it works just how normal CC works now
if you knock down/blow out a foe, then they get feared, they will just revert their animation and start running away
so, if they’re feared, then get taunted, they’ll be taunted, if taunted then feared, they will be feared

but the F2 that causes both fear and taunt…. does make me wonder if something will change on the wolf itself, since, that’s pretty worthless unless it taunted, then feared, or vice-versa, waste of a trait slot for that pet pretty much if not

Because it’s better to make one pet work out with a new GM than having the option to run that pet whenever you don’t spec into BM. Yeah, no, the wolf stays like it is.

I’d guess the taunt is applied on activation and that the feared is applied after the activation is over. So the fear will override the taunt.

I have a feeling that the taunt will activate before the fear, then immediately be overwritten. It actually makes the wolf inferior to their canine counterparts when used with this trait.

I’m excited about using an Alpine Wolf that applies AoE Blind, Weakness, Chill and Taunt.

Don’t forget poison from Refined Toxins if the pet is above 90% and bleeding if it happens to crit, from Sharpened Edges That would be pretty sweet. haha
Want to try this with Sinister gear http://dulfy.net/gw2traits#build=AgUCdAPsBVQ~

If the taunt happens at the end of the f2 activation then the effect would just be an equivalent of a stun that can be condi cleansed. Having the taunt at the start of the f2 would make for uninterruptable cc (unless under stability ofc), which might be deemed too strong. Who knows, other professions are getting a ton of strong options so wait and see…

EDIT:
There’s also resistance being added, and it would negate this taunt into fear combo the same as stability does, so it might not be as strong as I imagined after all.

If the targets have only 1 stack of Stability, using Beastly Warden and Wolf’s [F2] will at least proc one of the effects. Something to consider having an AOE that can knock off 2 stacks of Stability from 5 targets.

The thing about it being on start of f2 compared to at the end, is how much more it allows for setting up burst combos. Even a taunt at the end of the f2 would make for great maul/splitblade/etc. plays, but when you remove one of the counterplays (interrupting the pet) it becomes all that much more stronger. Although I’m probably getting ahead of myself as far as SPvP goes and ignoring the obvious elephant in the room – overbuffed shoutbows making anything relying on conditions even more pointless than it already is.

I’m still sceptical about this taunt trait. We all know pet AI sucks coz they can’t run and hit targets at the same time. With our super long F2 cast times (for most pets), I doubt the radius will be big enough to actually land the taunt. I am praying for at least 360 radius lol.
