I mostly agree with your choices, but can you tell my why wolf is god tier for you?
It has an aoe fear + single target knockback + cripple, is there no pet that has better skills than this?? (Not saying its bad, just curious)
For PvP or WvW, using anything other than a wolf is borderline unacceptable. It has 2 interrupts and a cripple. That’s why he listed it as god tier. It is REALLY good.
Drakehound is probably the closest second, but immobilize can be cleansed and it is hard to hit fleeing targets. (Fear can be cleansed but it’s too late by then.)
Dogs also are sturdy and have good autoattacks.
Pve perspective.

Black Bear
Black bear occasionally has its moments. Fractal bosses come to mind based on party composition. It’s not something you brag about, but it is the best bear pet.

Good to know, thanks!
I am trying a condition build in pvp (not spirit) and would like to know what you recommend as a second pet next to wolf? Drakehound seems to be my potential 2nd choice but I am not sure because I am still a noob when it comes to ranger.
Tier 1 for me in PVE: Jaguar and sometimes moa, birds, depending on the situation.

Lies! Brown bear is GOD – no other bear is best!
Will update once Path of Fire releases.
God tier: Boar with 100% stun trait
Tier 1: Dogs, Spiders, and jellyfish.
Tier 2: those creepy scorpions, cats, birds, shark, armorfish.
Tier 3: Drakes, pork, bears, red moa.
Kid table: Other moas, and whatever pet Bow/Bow rangers use.
I have a level 37 ranger atm, but for me
God tier : None
Tier one:
When I"m in groups or dungeon (Jungle Stalker for aoe might, fern hound for aoe regen, Drake for aoe dps/tankyness/blash finisher, and spiders for combo field in dynamic events. It helps me get a credit, when there are mostly high levels and I"m low level). For solo leveling pve, I would say, Lynx, Drake, and jelly.
Tier two: Jaguar, Shark, Felines, Birds, Canines,
Tier three: Bears, Moa, the rest with the exception of Boars.
Junk Tier: Boars.
:( whats with all the boar hate.
Not enough bacon.
Will update once Path of Fire releases.
if stationary target:
god tier: cats
tier 1: (empty)
tier 2: birds, drakes
tier 3: everything else
else:
tier 1: jungle and cave spider, wolf, drakehound, raven, boar

Short answer is no, no other pets have better skills then this (for Roaming in wvw)
the knock back is control able as it is the first skill it uses after swap, which is something that makes the Wolf/Drakehound combo so potent.
The fear is just too useful and can save you life, fear people form stomping you, fear people try to stomp some you are rezing, fear thief’s after reveal is finished to get another 3 seconds before they can stealth, i could go on for a while about the uses of a wolfs fear, other classes can only fear people near them we can send our pet to fear one group while we interrupt another (SB/GS#5)
When i select my pest for roaming and sPvP it’s a case pick the wolf and another pet.

for condi builds you will want a hard hitting dps pet as you second pet, so Jag or Raven some people like to use River Drake, Drakehound is also a good choice. I some time like to use an owl or snow leopard.
a post got put in this thread for some reason so deleted

For my ranger in WvW:
God Tier —-- Siamoth , this is the most reliable pet I have used simply becoz it gives me the opportunity when to use the portion, 66% chance I gain stealth before I enter a battle, so it’s my call whether to engage or disengage, even a plasma is better than any other pet can offer. Recently I carry a Siamoth all the time. Key is use F2 as long as it’s rdy, grab it, it will last 30 sec in your hand. So most of time, you always keep a feather/tuft in your hand.
Tier 1: Spider (immo) or wolf/dog. Prefer spider > wolf/dog, same reason, it’s my call when to use it, not pet. Spider is instant, wolf/dog is kinda slow some time, but considering the 600 range, it’s acceptable.
Tier 2: drake / bear, basically survive longer. Living pet always > dead ones.
Tier 3: cat/bird
Junk Tier: others
(edited by CRrabbit.1284)
God Tier: Brown Bear, Black Bear
Junk Tier: Everything else.
4x Necromancer, 3x Mesmer, 4x Guardian, 4x Thief, 4 Revenant
I use Drake and Devourer pets in PvE. Drakes are quite tanky, deal good damage, and have a blast finisher (although it’s often hard to time it well with your fields. Easier in dungeons with a party when there’s fields everywhere).
Devourers are also remarkably tough (maybe even more than Drakes despite their lower HP pool), can attack from range, and they have a 3 second evade skill which makes them excellent aggro bait for Champs and other tough foes.
Devourers are also remarkably tough (maybe even more than Drakes despite their lower HP pool),
That was true before they revamped the pets. Back then devourers had 8 toughness for 4 vit, for a total of 8 * 4 = 32 direct damage absorption capability. Drakes had 6 toughness for 5 vit, for a total of 6 * 5 = 30 DD absportion capability.
Now devourers have 8 toughness for 6 vit, for 48 DD absorption. Drakes have 60 toughness for 10 vit, for 60 DD absorption. Even spiders at 4 toughness for 10 vit have 40 DD absorption, which is close enough to 48 to make their higher DPS a better choice.

Anet really screwed over devourers with that patch. Before, you went with devourers if you wanted a ranged pet with DPS and tankiness against DD. Spiders if you wanted control effects and tankiness against conditions. It was a good balance because there were a wide variety of situations where a devourer was better, and a wide variety of situations were a spider was better. Both pets got used a lot.
Now spiders are better at DPS, control effects, and tankiness against conditions. Devourers are only better at tankiness against DD, meaning you’re almost always better off with a spider as a ranged pet. I almost never see devourers used anymore. The one place devourers are still good is underwater – Anet forgot to nerf their DPS underwater.
Hello forum, I have an odd topic of discussion for you.
How would you rank all of our terrestrial Pets in a Tier System?Tier System, meaning;
God Tier: I feel forced to use this all the time
Tier 1: I use this often
Tier 2: I think it’s okay. Not as useful as T1 but not as hard to work with as T3.
Tier 3: It feels hard to be effective while using this.
Junk Tier: I never end up using this.I always like seeing how these kinds of topics shake out. It gives interesting insight into what other people are doing, and as a silly thought exercise it can help us focus feedback as a community.
WvW, GS/signet build.
Tier 1: Drakehound, Polar bear, Wolf
Tier 2: Drakes, Spiders
Tier 3: Rest except
Junk: Birds. Not enough hp(least hp/toughness combo) and lack of usefulness overall for wvw.
Pve (i don’t do dungeons):
Tier 1: Moas (blue/red particularly). Their healing is just great for soloing stuff (champions, even soloed Grenth in Orr with them).
Tier 2: Spiders/any ranged pet really. For bosses. Others will die too fast or just be used for buffs / condi removal.
Tier 3: Rest except
Junk: Birds. Again, lack of purpose and usefulness along with lowest hp/toughness.
PvP: I don’t pvp too much but here goes.
Tier 1: Drakehound / Wolf / Polar Bear / Spiders.
Tier 2: Birds. Finally, their high damage can be somewhat useful here.
Tier 3: Rest except
Junk: Moas ! Their abilities are too slow (peck takes too long to be used in pvp). Also i don’t like seeing them limping
edit: forgot about god tier. Oh well, just use tier 1 as god tier and tier 2 as…tier 2.
