I use a Black Bear for a pet. It seems as soon as I hit lvl 40, anytime I would send him in to attack something, the npc would run straight to me. I don’t fire at it yet, and I am not standing close to the npc. It seemed at earlier lvls this was never a problem.

I would send the pet in, give it a 2-3 seconds to fight the npc, and start attacking it (longbow). The npc hardly ever came to me.

At 40, they charge no matter what.

Working as intended???

I never experienced that myself tbh, but I almost always used felines while leveling, so….
But if it really is the way you describe it….

No, I don’t think this is in any way working as intended ^^

The only explanation that comes to my mind would be that since you command your pet to attack, you also get into combat mode (fact) and since bears have high vit but average toughness (fact) and the enemy AI prefers targets with higher armor/toughness (fact) you could possibly be first target if you specced into toughness trait-line (speculation)

Just tried my bear in a lower lvl area. Nothing attacked me. I pulled up my Jaguar, in the same low lvl area, nothing came to me. Went back to the area I was in (35-45), sent the Jaguar in to attack a doe, the doe came running straight for me.

I’m positive toughness affects it, I’m also positive using certain weapons affect it, if you take the time thinking about it you’ll notice most mobs like going after high armor targets over over ones with low, other mobs will always pick a target fighting from ranged over a melee one and vice verca, damage output could probably play a part aswell but not nearly as much as the other two in my experience.

I’m specc’d mainly power/prec…hardly any extra in toughness. I understand if I was putting out high dmg. But I’m not dmg’ing the mob AT ALL. I send the bear/jaguar to the mob, auto attack is NOT on, the mob runs straight to me.

then it’s could be that the mob prefers lower armor and/or lower base hp..

as your using bear… thats one tough sob so i can see why the mob would run for you.. but i also see that it will be frustrating..

it also could and probably only last a few lvls as it has to do with scaling of pet to you.. every lvl this will change..

I got same problem. No matter what pet i send in (bear, jaguar, bird, pig) the mobs come strait to me, and this was not issue for first 15lvl but after that game turned in just kiting all the way. I read bunch of things, like “get pet with more dmg” – so i got jaguar didnt work, “get pet with low vitality” – got jaguar didnt work…. also read that some good gear can make your pet loose aggro so i got naked… didnt work… anyone got any answer on how to fix pet aggro?

Really, though, I don’t know. It’s always been kind of random for me. Sometimes mobs will go for my pet, sometimes they’ll come for me, and sometimes they’ll change their minds several times during the course of a fight.

Black bear NEVER licks wounds for me. Has anyone else experienced that?

It will give you aggression…

Rangers are born aggressive. And awesome. It’s the only explanation!

In higher level areas, particularly Risen, they will quite often walk straight past your pet to get to you.
