Pet name not acceptable
So I’m trying to name my cat Lulu… which btw is the name of my real cat :\
not acceptable for some reason? can someone tell me why.
Final Fantasy character name. At least, that’s the first thing that came to mind for me.
That’s like banning the name “Jack” because it’s used in Mass Effect :\
surely Lulu isn’t banned because of a Final Fantasy character, I didn’t even know that name existed in those games anyway
Apparently (according to Urban Dictionary) Lul is a dutch derogatory term. Possibly an extension of a ban on that word?
The naming rules are a good thing in that they somewhat lessen the incidence of offensive names. But inevitably there will be collateral damage, in that the algorithms aren’t 100% effective and have false positives – just like spam email filters.
I can’t imagine that Arenanet sat down at a board meeting and banned the name “Lulu” intentionally. But, you lose rather less by not being able to call your cat Lulu than we would all lose if Arenanet were to be more lax with their naming restrictions, I think.
Lul is dutch for the male genital, but I doubt that’s the reason. Can’t ban each bad word in each language.

I’d be glad if the game stopped me from calling my pet something that would inadvertently offend someone. Of course, people who want to be kitties will find a way to be offensive without triggering the filter but at least it stops well-intended people from being kitties by mistake.
Why whine about it? Seriously, if it doesnt allow you to have such a name, then just change it, complaining doesnt help as I doubt they will make an exception just for u.
