Ok, guys … this is the situation. I am a single player character and, a year later, I concentrated only in playing the ranger. To my shame, I certainly can’t be say about me to be a professionist in use of this class, but nevertheless I think I understand, at least a little, not so much the merits of the ranger, as much as anything else, its flaws. I would understand, thanks to you, what do you think in particular way about the skills that the ranger has when he is downed on the ground. Every other class in the game, definitely has better skills than ours. Guardian: Wave of Light (Push nearby foes back); Warrior: Vengeance (Rally and fight normally for a brief time. When the rally ends, you are Defeated); Engineer: Booby Trap (Set off an explosive booby trap, launching nearby foes with a powerful blast); Thief: Shadow Escape (Teleport to the target location); Elementalist: Shadow Form (Assume a mobile vaporous form, returning to a downed state When the effect ends); Mesmer: Deception (Create a clone of downed yourself); Necromancer: Fetid Ground or Fear, and these just to mention those that seem the best to me! Now I want to know, how many of you find useful the “Lick Wounds” skill to retrieve a pet, maybe at that time is 300 miles away and has to come back to us running (if it is still alive!) or limping (if he’s dead!) like a snail invested in highway, only to be licked and healed so slowly, leaving plenty of time to our opponents, to kill us with blows of dried figs after doing a round of phone calls and have also called relatives to spit on our heads, while we are dying, lying on the ground, with our little hand directed to the sky asking for help to our comrades! I’d like, even with your help, to raise awareness the developers about the possbility to totally change this skill (Licking Wounds), with another to give us the same chance of survival that other classes have. I do not know … it would be enough to have the possibility of going to exchange places with our pets, wherever they are in the moment we are downed (I know that it would be too similar to the skill of the mesmer!), Or … I do not come to mind other possible skills, sorry XD I understand that many of you will turn up their noses about this post, after a year we are all used to playing this way (dying with no way out, when we are downed!), not to mention the almost immortality that we have when we fight in ‘water! But given the scarcity of maps playable in water, honestly I’d do it even less if I could be a little more playable on the ground and I had the slightest chance to get up, and begin again to fight, after being downed and seeing myself surrounded by enemies who are fighting to rock/paper/scissors about who among them will finish me! Tell me what you think! And yet, despite everything…RANGER FOREVER!

While it is not apparent at first, the Ranger’s downed skills are actually one of the best (if not the best) for one reason only; while the pet UI is hidden in downed state, it does not disappear. You can still micromanage your pet in downed state so instead of pushing back nearby foes, you could send your wolf after them to use his F2 howl ability and fear them off your corpse. That is just an example but it is the most common one around. It is a shame the pet is so unresponsive most of the time, though.
Rangers have one of the best down skills in the game. In a downed fight a ranger will rarely lose. The other classes have skills that seem nice but in the end don’t really do anything.
Mesners = no half decent player is  fooled by his down illusions.
necro = fear can be a life saver if you can fear your enemy off a cliff or something.
 In fact with the exception of the warrior when traited.  Your pretty much dead after you use your big down skill.
Ranger can actually ralley themselves either by having their pet kill something or by using like wounds.
switching your pet before you use lick wounds can help do away with returning time of your pet. Be aware that pets can suffer from summoning sickness (2 second delay before becoming responsive).
I have had a champ beat on me and lick wounds was able to revive me.
Seriously Ranger have the best down state skills and underwater we are kitten  near immortal.
JorneMormel.9850, what you say about the wolf is right, but if I do not want to play with the wolf as a pet? All other pets turn out to be useless, according to your reasoning, and so the only pet to use in pvp / WVW prove to be the wolf! Anyway, I agree with you, regarding the fact that, very often, the pets are bugged and when we call upon them to cure us, they come back to us and do absolutely nothing but sit there next to our body watch us die impaled by our enemies! This bug is a very long time, but I do not know if it has ever been reported (I hope so and I suppose, since we are many rangers!). However, my hope to have a different skill when we are downed, remains.

Many times when I get downed I send my pet to kill something nearby (with low HP or a yellow mob) and rally from it, jaguar do it well, reef and river drakes F2 also do it very well, and while you wait for the kill you have the skill #2 to interrupt.
Also don’t forget you can swap pet while downed, so if your pet is far, just swap and it will be right next to you.
As a ranger we have 99 problems but downed state ain’t one.

EVERY canine has a KD, Hyenas can summon another hyena who also has a KD, cats and birds and sometimes even drakes, will slaughter the opponent as the enemy tries to finish you, Moas will heal you with their Harmonious Cry skill while you’re downed (I’ve actually been picked up by that) not to mention black moas and flamingos have a daze…

This is only true for PvE.
For PvP rangers are pretty much middle of the road when it comes to downed state, nowhere near the top 3 of downed state (Ele, Mesmer and Thief).
Simply because in PvP the only value of downed state is delaying your death as much as possible so a team mate can rez/rally you, or just to be a nuisance and remain alive as much time as possible, buying your team a little extra time.
In that regard, the top 3 are the only ones that can prevent any form of stomping, with elementalist being the strongest (can’t even take damage while in Mist form) actually immortal when within a certain distance of a fortification they own (Mist form right in). After that Rangers and Guardians can prevent stomps once in an AoE if it’s not covered with stability (or better, like invincibility), and finally the classes that can prevent a single no-invisibility or better stomp (single target, requires targeting) – Warrior, Engineer and Necro.
