Pets - Entirely Useless Against Hard-Hitting Bosses
That’s why I use my Red Moa. Just have it sit by my side and buff me and other people with 20% crit chance every 30 seconds or so.
When I go “heal/support” I use fern and brown bear and just have them on avoid combat. I just wish that I could cast their skills without them running in to attack.
yeah there are several problems that makes the pets usless
1st they need AOE dmg taken reduction or more HP
2nd pets does not attack from behind and any frontal attack gets them killed
i know that this game is not wow but wow got it right when it comes to pets because my pet could survive the entire fight there while here my pet gets 1-2 shoted
the only pet that can last a lil longer is either devourer or spider because of their range attack or some tanky pet that can survive few hits more
if GW2 borrowed WoW’s pet system, id be the happiest gamer in the world. Blizz spent years getting it right…no reason why we cant learn from that.
anyway, nice to see some people adapting. but pets (especially for us beastmasters) do a significant chunk of our dps. all pets need to be viable in every way, not just for boons.
I agree that it’s annoying but this is GW2, you’re not going to see damage reports at the end of the fight. No one cares about how much damages you’re doing, no one can see them, no one can compare them. Besides all bosses are just stupid and easy tank and spank fights, except the tank is random here. It’s not like you need everyone to do their best, to do the most possible dps in order to succeed. I’m certainly not defending Anet, believe me I feel extremely stupid when I’m “fighting” a boss and all I see is some stupid zerg fest but you have to realize that this game is purely aimed at casual players.

yea wow’s pet system is the best, they survive and you can cast more than 1 skill for them
i don’t care if my pet hits for 10 or 100 because i am the one who actually does the damage but i don’t like my pet to be 1-2 shoted and be dead 90% of the time
atm the only option is ranged (spider or devourer) all other pets die too fast
I like my spider but i also like some of the other pets but can’t use em coz they are usless
I wish there was a better ranged pet then the devourer and spiders…way to creepy for me to be into. Still, I often use the carrion devourer in dungeons just because I’m sick of having dead bear pets (they are supposed to be the beefy pets but die as quick as any other pet).
I’ve always wanted them to put in a buffing/debuffing ranged pet so we can have a pet that gives us direct combat bonuses as their primary responsibility other than as a weak meat shield or DoT.
I didn’t mind WoW’s pet system, as at least the pets were useful in every type of gameplay, but I really preferred the pet system in GW1. Sometimes using a pet was optimal (Barrage/Pet), others it made more sense to skip them all together (full trap build). That kind of versatility is what made the ranger – at least for me – interesting to play.
