Champion: Phantom, Hunter, Legionnaire, Genius
WvW rank: Diamond Colonel | Maguuma
I enjoy making posts here regularly for tweaks to the Ranger profession. Mainly because as most people know it’s in a pretty sorry state. For this post I’m going to make a few new pet suggestions. Although yes, pets are a big part of what ruins the profession, I don’t see ANet removing them any time soon. So I’ll list a few pets with preferred abilities that would be useful to the Ranger. If you have any suggestions yourself please feel free to add them without it being something ridiculous like an Oakheart with Entangle as it’s special ability.
1. Basilisk (amphibious) – Special Ability: Turn foe to stone 2 1/2 seconds.
2. Dolphin – Special Ability: Summon second Dolphin (similar to that of the Hyena)
3. Shadow Skelk (amphibious) – Special Ability: Shadowstep to foe for one guaranteed critical attack
4. Griffon – Special Ability: Knockdown foe while applying 3 stacks of bleed 3 1/2 seconds
5. Minotaur – Special Ability: Launch your foe
6. Wasp – Special Ability: Attack your foe with 3 critical attacks in quick succession
Reasons why:
The Basilisk would provide a good means of keeping distance between you and your enemy.
The Dolphin would be good for controlling larger under water mobs or dealing extra damage to a single enemy.
The skelk would be good for moving enemies and as a finishing attack if the enemy is weak.
Same as Basilisk, good enemy control.
And again same as Basilisk, good enemy control, which, as a Ranger is very important.
Would be great as a finisher. When enemy is low health use special attack for burst damage assuming the pet hits the enemy.
I agree with Dolphin, but not the ability. Could be something different like a short AoE stun or something (useig echo/sonar). Would be more beliavable.
The Griffon I agree with.
The rest – having a hard time seeing them as pets.
Would use the skelk so much maybe one of its other skills would cause invis until next attack
Agreed. There should be new pets already! I allways wanted to have a “bat” or a wasp
The rest – having a hard time seeing them as pets.
Skelk can be tamed, lore-wise, there’s a charr mill in Diessa Plateau training them to harvest wood.
Also, I want raptors.
Oh yeah, we want more animals. But also to configure them, so they can benefit us while we use the ones we really like to see as minor companions. To choose their speciality.
Basilisk venom is nice, would punish those thieves who stone me in WvW with their OP backstabs, no chance to survive at all (just luck if someone saves me accidently)
+ Lion from me
Bull – charge. Knock around the zerg like bowling pins. Nuff said.
I always thought it would be neat to have a ferret or something similar that would stay at your feet and give you various buffs as opposed to its own abilities. that way Rangers who want the “stored” pet scenario would have something viable.
with the ferret you could have some neat abilities.
1. Into the shadows- You and your pet meld into the shadows causing blindness (smoke field) 3 seconds.
2. Aspect of the hunter- while ferret is active pet you gain heightened senses. all auto attacks have 50% to add vuln for 5 seconds (stacks 10 times max)
3. Gouge- when attacked your ferret attempts to protect you. ( each attack you block/dodge gives you 3 seconds of Protection.
any of these would be neat abilities. although i do think rangers are in serious need of a smoke field ability.
although i do think rangers are in serious need of a smoke field ability.
For all those people who want anet to give ranger more stealth kitten. Give them 1 or 2 smokefields maybe a smoke or dust trap, a pet active, or a survival skill.
Other than that im still all in on the skelk teleporting and critting (i also think they are adorable little salamanders).
