can and do speak to unicorns.” (Arrow The
Unicorn)
All day today my pet has been chasing after enemies that I haven’t targeted or attacked. For example Ill be harvesting some wood and my pet will run off on its own to an enemy and start attacking it. The enemy wont even be close or be targeting me. It also does this on bosses and trash mobs in dungeons. We will be waiting before a boss to group up and Id have a team mate targeted or even nothing. It just goes off and starts pounding on the boss.
Anyone else having the same problem?
Not in the way you describe it but one thing I’ve had I think since release more or less certainly many months atleast, is that if you get in combat and your pet goes for whatever attacked you, you retreat and recall your pet until you both drop combat then bwaam pet goes mongoloid totally spazzing out and runs straight into the fight to start trouble again, and this can happen long long after combat has been already broken probably something similar you’re seeing though.
I have the opposite problem. I keep telling the pet to attack and i get “Your pet is not in range”. :p
Yes! I thought I was going crazy, but in the dredge fractals after after clearing a group of them my pet started zig zagging and eventually attacked another group all on its own. Another thing I’ve noticed is that auto target no longer targets w/e is closer to you, which is very odd and might have to do with why our pets are attacking the wrong targets.
I noticed that during blood farming, pets would go miles out of their way to get at the skelk nests the istant the skelk you were fighting dies.
One day..
The pets will rise from the years of oppression! They will conquer the world in a mass of bear butts and bird tails!
Beware their retribution.
Or, they just wont listen to a single command you give them. Mine really like to just put their f2 on full cooldown without actually doing anything.
One of my favorites is what I call the F1-F2-F3 dance! Wherein, you press F2, the pet hears “F1?! OK!!” and goes to attack. You press F3 to recall, and they come back to your side seemingly willing to adhere to your every command. But then.. press F2 again, and all they hear is “F1?! OK!!” and they go to attack again. Rinse and repeat for justice.
I swear I see a smirk on their face when they do it…

lol Tuluum, did you by accident borrow one of my pets? That description almost matches them perfectly.
Particularly the wolf in spvp or wvw seems to love this F1-F2-F3 dance when you’re downed and want it to howl before the opponent finishing move. (it does regularly pounce though instead of howling, which actually can help in that situation)
Though honestly I wish my pet would have this aggro bug. Seen cases where my pet appears to go on follow on the target I want it to attack (it runs to the target, and keeps running behind the target without attacking. Ok admittedly I only gave it 20s after reaching the target, but 20s and no damage lead me to believe it wasn’t going to attack)

Nah, they are mine!
But, I suspect that all of our pets go through the same training center.
They really, really need to hire new people..
My absolute favorite thing about bird pets is that they decide to ignore me and spend 4-5 seconds before every battle uselessly flying around my head casting Quickening Screech when I already gave them IMS with SotH or Agility Training. Still not quite as bad as Devourers, who, despite being a ranged pet, feel the need to go into melee range constantly then spend their time retreating.
Smack them with a newspaper, yell “NO BAD YOU’RE ADOPTED” repeated, and squirt them with water.
None of this helps them listen to me more, but it makes me happier.
ive been getting the pet is not in range crap a ton since the patch! omg its driving me insane….
Sounds like you don’t have enough badges to control your pet…..
On a more serious note, are you using Guard? Because i can’t think of any other reason this would happen.
Nope not using Guard. It does not happen every time either. It will stay all peaceful for a while even if we are standing in the middle of a zerg of enemies. I have a theory but it is no confirmed. I dont know if anyone else has noticed this.
We will be getting attacked by enemies A, B and C. While concentrating on enemy A, enemy C will lose agro and move away. We will kill Enemy A and B and go out of combat and farm some ore nearby. Randomly pet will start running and attacking enemy C who is not focused on us or we on it.
This does not explain why the pet goes off attacking a stationary boss that is not targeted or engaged with before but its a start to explaining something. Most likely though something is wrong with pets.
