Pets dodge when you dodge
One needs to look at the bigger picture. Not just the little red circle issue. I dont want my pet to dodge when I dodge.
If I have to kite one or more targets while my stealth jaguar is riping one of them a new one I dont what to waste his damge becuase I dodge twice during his six second stealth negating around 4k damage or more because my pet has to get back into postion after each roll most likly negating his whole stealth. This would affect all pet KD and special attacks.
Adding dodge when I dodge means my pet is dealing no damage when it Dodges. Pet already have issues with hit moving targets this would increase this problem.
I like the fact that will I kite my pet still does damge. Dont fix one problem by creating a bigger one.
Alot of you complain about how long it takes to fix issues and why doesnt anet listen to the community.
This is an example of why. Alot of your solution will fix an issue in one area while creating a bigger issue or issues else where.
everyone should fear becoming mentally clouded and obsessed with one small section of truth.

Bandit archers in CM deal damage as they dodge if you didn’t know.
How bout “pets become invulnerable while you dodge”
I wouldn’t mind seeing something along the lines of changing the active combat/avoid combat button. Sure, have that as a toggle when the pet is beside you, but if it isn’t, I’d like to see it changed so that the pet leaps/charges/web pulls/whatever straight back to your side – a really fast movement. That way, I might be able to keep my pets alive in boss fights when I see them standing in an AoE circle that’s too huge for them to run out of normally, instead of hearing ‘They got my pet!’ so often = \ Either that, or give us a button to make our pets dodge that isn’t the same one we use, and give them their own endurance regen that’s affected by our skills and traits. So nothing circus-bear style, but maybe they could block or duck on command?
I honestly don’t know why people want this. You’re basically asking the player to take a 50% hit in the number of dodges he or she has. You’d be crazy to waste your dodge on the pet. Pet goes down, the fight goes on, albeit at a crappier dps rate. Player goes down, the fight ends. So why would I waste a dodge on the pet when I should be saving it for me? Damage mitigation via dodging is what separates this game from other MMOs. To ask the player to share that limited source of mitigation to get around a pet problem is such a cop out.
Fix the pet instead. Make F3 responsive by overriding all actions in the queue and make pets dash when you F3. Like when you hop across the floating platforms on the asuran fractal, your pets will dash across the gap like it’s almost teleporting. Do that when you F3.
The term you’re looking for is “evades”.
Dodging has a separate animation. Evading means all attacks against you miss while you’re still able to use skills.
Making the pet evade when the Ranger dodges would fix a LOT of issues.
And @Aridia, not only does that solution not make sense, it’d be horribly broken as well to be able to make your pet teleport at any given moment.

Reread my post. You never addressed as to why you should waste a dodge on the pet.
Every player has 2 dodges. So you want to use your dodge so that your pet will evade? No thanks. Not everyone is melee. Just because the attack will hit the pet doesn’t mean it’ll hit the player.

This should be a trait. I personally would not want this in PvP though in PvE it would be nice.
Am I good?… I’m good.

Rangers have far more than 2 dodges.

From one of my older posts:
Either make pets immune to all incoming AoE damage, or make it in a way that pets only get AoE damage when the player gets AoE damage.
If the player gets damage from AoE, the pet could also get the same or 50% of that damage migrated to it. This means if the player is skilled, and dodges /evades the AoE, the pet gets no damage. But if you are not a skilled player and just keep getting AoE damage, you will be punished by loosing your pet.
ps. a general buff to pets’ health is more than wellcome!
Isn’t this implemented already? I ran CoE path 2 and my pet did not take damage from Alpha’s AoE when I dodge. Pets remained alive the entire fight.

This would be abused to no end. The range on a pet is tremendous. Add this with trait that allows pets to share boons with thier master. It would be bad for pve and pvp.

Are you being dense on purpose? The dodge I’m talking about is the default one, which uses the little yellow stamina bar above your HP, which there are only 2, like every other class.
Again, not everyone is using melee. You cannot assume or force someone to spec a certain way. LB with Axe only has the 2 default dodges and not everyone runs Lightning reflex.
This proposed fix is worse than the problem. Fix the pet instead of asking something that’s actually a nerf/cop out.
Having pets dodge when we do would not be a good mechanic in any way for several reasons, here are just a few:
- You mostly need the dodges for yourself
- Having your pet dodge automatically when it was you that actually needed the dodge is a big waste in dps
- In chaotic fights, it’s hard having to keep full attention on dodging for your pet, while you yourself is busy staying alive and dodge incoming damage
I’d prefer to see something like this:
- Using “Return to me (F3)” would have the pet ‘dodge’ (maybe even twice in a row), then run back to its owner, perhaps even granting swiftness to the pet for a short time
F3 could have an built in ability that clears snaring effects from the pet, on a cooldown (30 seconds maybe)
OR, have the pet shadowstep back to its owner, add a 15-20 second cd on the shadowstep ability and if it’s not up, the pet runs back normally
- When in passive mode, pets would have some sort of evasive passive ability and/or damage mitigation, possibly even a high rate regen ability
refining OGDeadHead idea
Replace F3 with pet dodge and return to me command.
F3 command has same cooldown as stamina usage and has 2 bars
Using F3 will make the pet evade all attacks as it rushes back to the ranger as long as a bar is used.
If no bar is avaiable to be used whilst F3 is used, the pet will just return to ranger and receive normal dmg along the way just like current F3
Basically its just giving a separate dodge button for ur pet

I think this would be a good solution, however those that have problems managing thier pets now will still have the same problem.

That would be player skill problem not pet design problem anymore.
Maybe rework all the pet basic attacks into chains and place an evading attack into the mix similarly to the third attack on the great sword chain.

Point 1 can be avoided by making the pet passively attacks, instead of actively dodging. This would not break its attack animations, much like the greatsword’s 3rd autoattack.
The second part will always be an inherent problem with pet classes and cannot be fixed. You’ll have to learn to watch your pet.
would like to see this as a trait giving 3s evade or invulnerability to the pet when u dodge
iirc pets in gw1 had dmg mitigation to aoe like 33% or something, be nice to have that back as a mechanic not a trait

Ah yes, I think you’re indeed onto something really, really good here, and I very much approve of this idea – nice!

Oh kitten not another l2p kittening post. I can manage both myself and my pet very fine thank you very much, after soon 1000 hours on my ranger alone, which covers all aspects of this game. Give me a kittening break.
