Guild Wars 2

Hello! I’m running a build on my ranger that relies on conditions to do damage, but I’m having a lot of trouble choosing a pet. To be more specific, it is a trapper ranger. I’m using a warthog right now for its forage skill.

Any recommendations would be appreciated thank you!

Drakes are nice, quite tanky and pretty good damage, also random aoe might when they are fighting in your fire fields.

The warthog is decent. Though a spider may help to give you an additional condition source. The forest spider will be quite nice when combined with the poison traits in wilderness survival. Providing almost guaranteed 100% poison uptime.

Id reccomend waiting till tuesday though and trying out the new pet traits like companions might in the beast mastery line (will cause the pet to bleed on auto crit). If there scaling is fixed (or malicious training in the WS line is improved) and its combined with the bleed on crit trait from the skirmishing line the pet can become a source of a massive number of bleeds (ESPECIALLY the birds/cats with there high precision. Though nearly ever pet should reliably crit if you take hte beast mastery line)

Right now it seems like you could pick a variety of pets based on what role you need them to fill. Bears/drakes for tanking, cats/birds for damage, pigs/dogs for control, moas for support, and of course spiders/devourers for ranged attacking.

I will say that, because pets don’t appear to inherit your condition damage or any condition boosting traits (hidden barbs/poison master) and because 300 condition damage from expertise training isn’t enough to make a difference, it looks like direct damage pets will trump condition pets regardless of your build.

Lynx is good. So does the marsh drake.
