Pets have too little HP in PvP
You, friend, need to play some wvw.
At that point your pet is just always on passive ’cause you want to keep it alive for swapping bonuses / f2 abilities.

I should also note that this problem is especially pronounced when using Glyph of rejuvenation, as it does not heal your pet (intended?).
I never got why they doubled pets health in PvE where hardly any damage happens and not in WvW and sPvP where orders of magnitude more damage is laid down on the ground that pets cannot avoid. Crazy.

HARDLY ANY DAMAGE HAPPENS
I am dumbfounded.
Players, especially groups of them, put out way more damage than AI enemies. The raid boss in the beta had something like 22 million health, and players have 13k-ish. A WvW zerg puts out ludicrous amounts of damage.
Oh i’m not denying that, but I’m still trying to process the notion that pets hardly took damage in PvE.
Regardless. They have twice as much HP in PvE. For some reason the Devs had decided that pets need to extremely fragile in PvP. So much so that they die to random AoE in a matter of seconds.

It’s not that they are fragile so much as they can’t maneuver at all and don’t dodge when we dodge.
Since the smoke scale change today, I have swapped out the Smokescale (22k hp) for the Tiger. (15k hp) What I have noticed is that my tiger dies extremely fast to random AoE. SS wasn’t great, but that extra HP made a difference.
15k hp for dogs and cats was fine pre HoT, but the new elite specializations combined with the condi changes make for an extreme amount of AoE damage in the current meta. 15k hp literally disappears in a couple of seconds without the pet ever being targeted by anything.
IMO all pets should have their base HP buffed by 20 or 30% in PvP. This would put their survivability on par with pre HoT.
Try WvW where 50% of the life is gone before you enter EB or the Borderlands.
Anet isn’t thinking clearly at all on many mechanics, but this one , along with the venerable f2 that almost never works;
AND the new one where staff only hits one foe rather than the three it says it does in the tool tip
All proof we are not getting what we paid for at all.
Anet needs to fix the game in respect to Rangers – really fix, not ignore for three years.

Mine never dies in PvE.
But in PvP (which btw, I can’t play since anet turned off my pets in pvp, nope, not kidding), and in WvW our pets are dead faster than anyone can blink.

Unless this is some new bug, it means you have to hit the enemies in a line. it’s not an AoE though the actual effect of the line is a bit wider than the beam we see.

PvE monsters do not deal much damage. Pets were buffed in PvE because they were dying too often because with such little health, even the small damage that PvE monsters deal was killing them.
Players in PvP deal orders of magnitude more damage than PvE monsters yet pets have not been buffed for PvP. Which, imo is crazy.

On top of this, pets now have a 95% damage reduction in PvE if they are untargeted, so are basically immortal unless you are using a Drake or Bear in a zerker party, yet they melt in PvP.
I always think that there should be an option for ranger to play without pets. Just give the kitten f2 as a profession skill and turn that pet off. It brings more pain than advantage mostly. Ok, there are advantages like poison cloud, extra blast finisher, fear…etc. But mostly pet dies instantly in pvp.
The HP new pets have should be the base of the pets if you ask me,
old pets are just to outdated.
Pet HP should be same as it is in pve currently. It is just a too big of a punishment when a pet dies, as alot of times you can’t do anything to prevent that, especially in wvw. Reducing the cooldown for pet swap would also help-CD for the dead pet is way too huge, leading to the death of the 2nd pet, as you can’t even pet swap (for 50 sec I beleive?) after the first one died. Keeping the cd at 20 sec, even if a pet died, would also make total sense (not like there are tactics to focus down pets) they ussualy die when you can’t do anything to prevent it.

It’s actually currently a bug, all pets have their hp reduced in PvP modes (including WvW) but the new ones dont’ so right now they are ‘stronger’ in the aspect they live longer than they should. Just look at bear hp compared to bristleback, and look at their stats (on pet pannel) they bristleback should not have more hp than the bear and it does.

I think it has about the same hp as the bear. Regardless, pets die way more quickly and frequently in HoT pvp than they used to. It really is something that should be addressed.
I have started using brown bear because of the condo clear but also because it is the only class of pet that can survive a Condi dump from signet of renewal.
