Pets in general - Help me?

Hi all, I’ve been a ranger since the start of the games release, however after taking a short break I just cannot understand pets anymore. It’s getting to the point that I wish that I could ‘hide them’ even whilst in combat because they just aren’t helping me.

Now let me explain:
PvE, Bear and its condition removal, and the various cats with their boon/shouts are great. Originally I used a devourer because it pulled aggro well and kept going underground, which the NPC’s followed so I could stand stationary and pew pew pew.

PvP: Pets never seem to attack. I’ve tried spamming F1. If I use the wolves fear ability, it never seems to be in range of an attacker? In a recent fight against both a bunker engineer and a generally tanky warrior, my wolf just ran back and forth. (Yes I do have pet attack on the red icon :P)

I love rangers, and I’m all for the game changing and professions being switched around and the game getting difficult, as a harder game means more of a challenge, which is fun. So I call out to you, veteran Rangers, teach me once again to love Pets and please provide advice on the best ones to take.

(PvE build: Heavy glass cannon at the moment) (PvP: Can switch around so doesn’t matter as much)

Please help

1)Whne pet is on “gurd” mode, it tends to attack the trarget u’r ataccking unless you F1 in a different traget but if the target will go out of pet target lock(stealth) it will go back to the target u’r attacing. If u keep pet on avoid combat, you can micro manage him better, if u tell the pet to attack(F1) while on avoid combat it will keep track on that target until u’ll tell somthing else and wont run around targets.

2) wolf fear is 600 radius so you need to kip him close to target if you want to use F2 fear. If u try to use F2 while your target is on target lock, the pet will attampet to get into range of the target and wont always succeed. If you want your F2 to activate on the spot, u need to cancel the traget lock before using it. Also works better on avoid combat mode.

3) If your pet getting to far or out of range and starta to get cluncy, use swap pet (F4). The fresh pet will spwan next to u and many times will open with his specail passive attack(like the leap for wolf) also, swaping pet jsut before using f2, raises the preformance of the pet respondant(becuse the fresh pet is free from target lock).

Good luck.
