It’s absurd that neither my sigil procs, nor my runes, nor my crit damage stat nor my crit chance nor my toughness nor my power nor my food buffs nor my sharpening stone or potions affect my pet — who comprises 1/3 to 1/2 of my damage.

This is beyond crippling. In WoW, boons/buffs on the master are translated to pets. His stats are equally contributed to the pet stats. Nerf their base stats if you must to accommodate gear scaling, but the ranger will never be well off as a class so long as gear is so meaningless to him because half of his offensive aspect doesn’t benefit from it.

And implement a 90% reduced damage to AoE for pets and spirits, please.

Also, melee pets need to cleave in their attacks. It’s a terrible disadvantage when half of your damage is stuck single target while warriors and guardians and mesmers and elementalists are cleaving all of their damage in melee.

Ranged pets need to be 1200 range, not 900.

Well there is a way, fortifying boons gives your boons to your pet, just I get the feeling you’re probably not in the beastmastery or nature traitline. Anyways though, just remember that if you ask for sigils (gonna leave runes out cause I have my doubts about that) to apply to anything other than main weapons expect that thing to get its dmg nerfed by 30% cough cough

Full BM. 20 Skirmishing, 20 WS.

A base damage nerf, so long as it’s compensated by scaling, will be much better. Even at full 30 BM your pet at best crits for 7k on a 30 sec cd ability (the drake). The ranger himself at best with any of his melee abilities crits for 4-5k. That’s nothing relative to what other classes put out.

And grenades got a 30% nerf not only for sigils, but because they’re about to get full stat and attack transfer from mainhand weapons to their kits. And it was only to grenades because, well, it was the strongest spammable aoe in the game. My engineer could easily nail 4k grenade barrages at very low cooldowns.

Keep in mind pets can really be very strong already though, I’m not sure about how balanced it would be really. My assumption is that they wanted the traits to be “sigils” for pets, letting pets use your stats would be good enough. Also, the 90% dmg reduction for aoe seems rather popular but I think it’d end up making pets set it and forget it which I don’t think is their plan for ranger honestly.

I use 0/30/10/0/30 for extra pet survivability/dmg/etc atm

Gadzooks, a post on the forums I actually agree 100% with! Is this a dream?

Yeah, sometimes I think about the general concept of “pets” as a mechanic, and it’s actually a pretty bizarre concept. We tend to accept it because a “hunter” or “ranger” is a common tradition in games like this, but imagine if the mechanic were applied to some other class.

Introducing, a fantastic new class:

TWO WARRIORS!
From now on, all players who rolled a Warrior will be controlling two characters. The second warrior will be a clone of you, except that it has no gear, and is AI-controlled, with four automatically-activated skills and one that you can mash and hope will activate in a timely fashion. Your stats do not directly impact those of the second warrior, who cannot improve in any way unless you specifically flush your trait points away just to bring him up to a respectable level. AI Warrior does not dodge or avoid AoEs, and has no concept of aggro.
You can name your clone if you wish, but the game will periodically delete his name from memory and you will have to enter it again.

Sometimes I think these posts come from people who roam 1v1 in WvW or spvp and feel strong because they’re a good dueling class.

I’m talking PvE, specifically dungeons, where AoE and frontloaded damage is king.

Nope, I spend most of my time online running dungeons. Arah, CoE, CoF, etc., CoE obviously doesn’t work well for hunters but I still don’t see them making pets nearly immune to aoe.
