Pets will not stay stowed?
Same thing happened to me, I put the pet away to do a jump puzzle so he wouldn’t draw aggro and first time I take fall damage or get hit he comes back out.
There needs to be a way to disable it if you don’t want to use it.
I’ve run into this once as well. I don’t think I took any damage, and suddenly he was standing next to me again.
I usually stow the pets for RPing, so taking damage is pretty much not going to happen there. :-P
Given how useless a Pet is in WvW, I would like that we get something like 20% damage buff when Pet is stowed. And obviously as the topic is about, when stowed, stay stowed.
The stow feature is not intended to keep the pet permanently stowed, as rangers are not meant to be without their pets as far as gameplay is concerned. Whenever you take damage, it comes out. I think zoning does too.
Definitely needs to be fixed. Put pet away, steps into dungeon trap, stowed pet appears out of thin air gets hit and dies.
AI needs major overhaul if they want to keep the current stowing scheme in place. No pet, however loyal, will stand in the fire and get cooked without moving.
Never had too much of a problem with this. Pet comes out from fall dmg or zoning and just hit the button to put it away again. Simple. Hasn’t really annoyed me since its just pushing a single button.
As far as the pet coming out in dungeon and immediately dying I’ve never had that happen.
^ Cannot stow pet after fall damage or if pet attacks/gets attacked by something because you are “in combat”, another terrible gw2 mechanic.

I disagree with the idea to get a buff for stowing our pets. We’re a pet class.
That said, I agree 100 million, billion, gazillion percent that a stowed pet should stay stowed until we manually unstow it.

A 20% damage buff is a very BAD idea. The ranger was made and intended as a pet class, players shouldn’t be awarded if you choose NOT to use a class mechanic. Then whats the point? you might as well play a WARRIOR. It’ll be the devs shooting themselves in the foot. But I do agree that there should be a better way of stowing. Maybe like…when your HP drops below 80% the pet comes out? or have a non-combat mode with perma-stowing.

All fine and good until you WvW or get on a ledge in PVP and your pet immediately becomes useless and can’t attack the target…
There should be a pet aura buff for power if the pet is on passive mode to offset the missing damage. Pets are not feasible 100% of the time.
I’d like to see the perma-stowing of a pet too. I don’t always want a fat bear or an annoying crow by my side. I wanna ride solo, ya know, yolo? Lolo (oh dear God, make it stop! I hate yolo. ¬_¬)
@ajlee17
How exactly do you stow your pet away? I haven’t figured that out yet.
The buff is not a bad idea. The ranger in GW could live without pet some times so why couldn’t ranger in GW2. If they did add this, this would not hurt ppl who alway want pets so it would benefit both sides. They could shose not to stow.

Blue arrow icon next to the pet abilities. Although as soon as you take damage from enemies or falling it pops back out (the issue reported here).
Main: Hunter.
@Orci Thanks! my pet was in the way when indoor now i can put him aside I do hope, like others have stated, that when you stow them away, they stay away.
This has been suggested many times, by many people. No such thing as a permanent stow for the ranger. Even though every other class can play without interference from their pets. We are stuck with our pet constantly in the way. So far I have not seen anywhere on these forums or otherwise that this is working as anything but intended. Get used to it…
Even if the stow is working as intended, that doesn’t mean we have to like it, or that we shouldn’t voice our opinions on the matter in the forum. Personally, if other rangers want a permanent stow option (forget all the buff nonsense), I wish they would speak up too. If ANet really does listen to the player base, they could be persuaded to change how it works.
My 2 cents is this: give us a setting in the options to make the pet stow button permanent. Unchecked can be the default behavior as it is today. (Just like we can toggle double-tap for dodge.) Don’t give any bonuses to a ranger that stowed his/her pet.
For those that want a buff, they could add a 30 BM trait to buff the ranger if the pet dies, or maybe if the pet dies and the pet cool down is still up. But not apply it to stowed pets
Anyway, if they made the pet stow an option to toggle in the options, without any buffs, then everyone wins. Those who like it the way it is now, nothing changes. Those of us that want the control over the pet stow can have it. No one gains any game advantage from a stowed pet, so its fair for everyone.
A.k.a. a WIN – WIN.
Going to say pretty much exactly what I said in the other thread that addressed pet stowing. First and foremost, off the hop, the ranger is a pet class IN THIS GAME. Classes are different here than in GW1, and some are even different in the overall MMO genre. Fact remains, pets are what make a ranger a ranger. If you don’t want to have a pet at all, then there are MANY other classes that give virtually the same play style with no pet involved.
Now, as to “perma stowing” your pet, I have no issues with making it an option as long as the devs do not have to take time away from addressing the many other issues they have on them right now to try and re-balance the class overall depending on if a pet is active or not. In other words you choose to run without a pet, you lose the pet’s DPS / skills / buffs etc but gain nothing. No reworking traits to allow for a buff, no automatic buff for not having a pet out, no nothing. You play the class that you picked, and just like a thief choosing to only use a sword with no offhand or an ele that only uses one attunement, if you choose to nerf yourself do not expect Arena Net to compensate you for it.
I think that truly the best way to have it would be if a pet is stowed and you take damage that THEN, and only then, can they be instantly stowed again. That would relieve the issues of fall damage or jumping puzzles.
Otherwise, do not ask Arena Net to completely change a class’s mechanics couched in wanting “options”. The ranger is a pet class. If you do not wish to play with pet class mechanics, roll another class. It truly is that simple.
Edit After re-reading the thread more carefully I would also be OK with having a damage threshold before the pet came out. Somewhere between 80% or even as low as half health of the ranger would trigger the pet to be un-stowed. That would allow for pets to be put away for jumping etc, but would come to your aid if you are in trouble.

I don’t want a buff when I stow my pet, I just want to get it out of the way sometimes.
I tried that griffon jumping puzzle today and it was horrible. Every second jump thatkittenbear came out and pulled some griffons and I couldn’t get out of combat to make the next jump. And at the entrance of the puzzle underwater I couldn’t see a thing because I pulled some ice drakes by mistake, so my pet came out and blocked the entire screen in that underwater cave.
Can’t they just make it that the blue arrow permanently stows your pet, until you press it again and/or until you press F1 or F2 to give your pet a direct attack order?
Pets are a hindrance when attempting jumping puzzles as they can obscure your view of narrow ledges. Being able to permanently stow them would be nice.
At least if it’s stowed away while in a city it should stay away even if taking damage or jumping in/out of water.
