Please Give Short Bow 1200 Back
I am also sad. Yet, shortbow remains hilariously strong.
I too am also very sad. I tend to run Longbow now with 1500 range, but I would rather run the Shortbow with 1200 range.

Fix’d
Forget the shortbow, i want my pet leash range back.

Me too. They seriously need to reconsider wvw leash range imho.
Does anyone even know why they shafted the leash?
Shortbow should be traitable +300 like the longbow, then there is a cost for that range, a little thing we like to call ‘balance’. Then all those people who think it’s fine at 900 can carry on and enjoy the freedom trait points, and all those people that really want the range can have it.
It was balanced at 1200, they didn’t nerf it because it was strong, they nerfed it because the longbow was poorly designed and they wanted to drag it down to the longbow’s level.
The pet leash was nerfed (like all nerfs) for sPvP reasons. Pets were able to to harass enemy players on control points large distances away from the player. The player could be on a home point and protect it while the pet was off on another point or helping out elsewhere. I think rangers were even able to get out of combat while the pet attacked, the range was that large.
I don’t think we will see change on either of these things any time soon. Neither of them are sPvP issues and will be unlikely to see change as a result. Pet leash range will likely never change because of sPvP.

If I remember correctly, there was one big reason. In sPvP, especially the map Battle of Kyhlo, the ranger could send his/her pet to attack a player going mid and then go to a far point and stay out of combat while the pet continued to fight. To them, this was enough reasoning to nerf it in PvE as well because they assumed this was also a problem in WvW. In fact it was an issue, with the Guard skill in particular allowing pets to climb inaccessible terrain, but I think that fix was implemented before the leash was put in (not sure), so the nerf in PvE was heavily unwarranted (in my opinion).
From what I remember reading, apparently they hardcoded the Ranger pet so deep into the game that a single change to the pet in any way, from AI to health, will effect all game modes. Meaning we’re screwed as long as they keep taking sPvP as an indication of how the Ranger pet should be. -_-

I kinda felt that the nerf to its range was mostly appropriate. It made the Longbow totally obsolete. At best, there should be a trait increasing its range, but it honestly never felt right being 1200 by default and I was highly amused by the rage on the forums about it.
I don’t think it needs to have its range restored. If they want to make the trait boost it up, that’s one thing. but the range it had invalidated the use of the longbow almost entirely. On the flip side, at 900 the shortbow feels kind of inadequate when put up against the Axe.
Change needs to happen, don’t get me wrong. But Shortbow at 900 I think I’m ok with to be honest.
I’m with Sandpit, make it traitable.

I think everybody here agrees with him on that.

Shortbow range base 900 + 300 with traitThanks.
That’s really how it should be. It forces you to put 20 in power and would probably take away from either tankiness or condi-dmg. Hardly OP at all. I’d even give up the +5% LB damage on Eagle Eye if shortbow range would replace it.
I troll because I care
Be careful not to make LB weaker though, they would just nerf SB more to make LB seem better again.

I would take +5% damage over +300 range on my shortbow in a heartbeat.
And I literally can’t stand the long bow, longer range or not.
I wonder what your basis for comparison is…”

If you stop looking at “we used to have it so we deserve it now” and start looking across the other classes then 900m is right. Warriors have 1000m longbow. Thieves have 900m shortbow. Thieves are far more in need of a 1200m shortbow, they’re never going to get it, and rangers will never get it back either.
You do know that there’s a 300 range detection feature that precludes anet from correcting attack range? In other words, it you have 900 range shortbow, you should be able to land at 1200 still. This means warrior longbow is only 1300 compared to a 1200 range shortbow. Honestly these range discussions are unwarranted. I’m waiting for you all to slap me when I say that there is an argument to be made that shortbow range should be even shorter. So, honestly, you have it really good already.
Forget about reverting SB range back to 1200.
I’m sure the Ranger community is happy with 900 by now.
And i could bet my Alienware x51 that it WILL stay at 900.
If you dont know this dev already man you have not played GW1 for 5 years.
What they did, they will never revert nor change.
Therefore my x51 will never be yours lol!

well as part of the ranger community, i am not happy at all by it.
*The reason for the nerf was to not Overpower thief class short-bow range.
Apparently before our short-bow nerf; theives were complaining how rangers short-bow range gave them an upper-advantage over thier sb.
In other word, Arena.net was playing Favorites by giving Rangers sb a longer ranger than theirs.
As a caution…
I do want us to get our sb at 1200 range, but if Arena.net ever choose to do so, so will their thief class.
So be ready if happen.

I too am not happy by this idiotic short range.
As for thieves deserving 1200? kitten , just scrap all other professions and call this kitten game Thief Wars, they won’t do that though because it would kitten off the warriors.
As a pve player I don’t care. 900 range is fine, I need to be close for spotter anyway.
I fail to see how the range change has any practical effect, but I should probably be careful using sarcastic logic in a QQ thread. Shortbow is still a great weapon for ranger and bringing the ranger just a liiiittttle bit closer to the action isn’t all that bad of a thing, especially in PvE, where the less experienced player can have a positive impact on their group by accident through use of spirits/aoe slot skills. But really, screw bows, why can’t rangers wield catapults?!

Actually having 1200 range was extremely valuable in catching up players/preventing escape in wvw with crippling shot and concussion shot. Lots of professions can put lot of distance between you and themselves in a very short time.
But i guess random babbling about spirit range and wielded catapults makes that point invalid.

The bows we’re shooting must have a draw weight of like 5 lbs or something.
