Poison Master - A few more effects
Was the stack cap on Poison ever mentioned ?
Will update once Path of Fire releases.
I don’t think a cap was mentionned yet
Thought of another effect following the Boon Stripping for Rangers Thread;
Remove one boon fromm your foe when you apply poison
Cooldown of __ seconds (should be pretty long considering the NUMEROUS sources of poison)
Wow. The new thief trait will give them 50% more damage and 33% more duration.

The ranger trait gives you 50% more duration and poison on first hit for your pet.

Don’t know about you, but the thief’s trait sounds more potent to me.

Especially as dagger attacks now apply poison by default…

I think you read it wrong.
Ranger poison master will rise poison damage by 50% and pet also cause poison on next attack.
Since condition stacks limit will be removed and apparently all conditions will stack in intensity and not in duration, it is great to have poison from 2 sources.
(and the other 8 elite specs maxed too)

But is it still grandmaster worthy and can it compete with the other options?
In a cond build yes, I think it can compete, and that thait in both cases are GM tier.
In a high cond build 50% increase is A LOT, specially now that stacks will be in intensity.

I’d disagree the entire trait could probably added to expertise training and that trait might be a good master trait.
Just a thought, the trait says it only increases your poison damage and the poison itself comes from pets who won’t get the benefit of the trait and has 0 condi damage base.
Its also competing with our two sources of serious condi remove, one of which is probably one of our best GMs.

AI not scaling with players is one thing but with ranger it’s a major drawback it’s not the trait it’s the design. I’m pretty this has been asked many times before they dodged it with turrets hopefully they reconsider with ranger.
The Dhuumfire thread
There’s been a lot of issues with that particular design as they’ve had the stance that it was part of the ranger’s strength to have diverse selection of focus between the pet and the ranger (then they reduced the damage of pets across the boards as bunker ranger zerker pet beastmaster showed the worst having any pet class in a game that focuses on competitive small scale pvp over other all of it other content).
The pet isn’t working well enough by design to really warrant the limitation they have placed on the profession to make it feel balanced. The pet will always be a problem area for the game as one it was designed to use the same baseline mechanics and the PvE elements (so improvements risk breaking the game), the perception of the pet class getting a ‘easy mode’/‘I win button’/‘no skill’ label for having the pet coupled with the stigma that the competitive community has place on anything remotely labeled AI.
Also that whole ‘petting zoo’ skritt, body blocking was the actual problem, not that the spirits were actually all that good. If people could LoS using warrior banners they would probably still not receive that vitriol that the ranger community was saddled with over the general impression that label has people believe.
Poison Master’s Poison scales from the players Condition Damage.
Unless there’s some sort of secret pet fix coming in the future that makes this trait worth it, it is definitely weaker than the Thief’s equivalent trait…which is pretty sad if the trait is left the way Anet showed us.

At this point it is kind of the MO there, maybe it would better to instead of asking them to fix thing we just let them leave the profession with weaker option, but allow ranger to have access to more of them. So instead of 3 specialization let the ranger have 4.
They could just add some more duration to it, to bring it into line with the thief trait, since its our pet applying the poison, it is less certain than the thief version and the thief got poison on dagger attacks also.
Yeah, the thief equivalent is a bit better but not that much.
Poison master affect the ranger so all poison applied by the player will have the 50% extra damage, the pet’s poison is just an extra tick of poison.

Again, Poison applied by Poison Master is scaled from the players Condition Damage and not the Pets.
no matter how much this trait gets buffed it wont be picked in the future with the hot competition for that grandmaster slot. SoTF and EB are there too right?
the only hope for it is for it to move somewhere or if EB or SoTF were moved around instead

Thats good to know.

I think people could pick this trait over the other two in a trapper build if HS becomes a trap (would allow for double the condi clear in a short time period). But, yeah, even then further effects on the trait would be desirable.
Maybe twist the boon removal concept and add an effect where
Poisoning a foe has a CHANCE to convert a boon to a condition
15% chance sounds kinda balanced, considering rangers have a LOT of poison, maybe add a cooldown once it triggers?
It does sound a bit necromancer-ish, but poison can also be defined as ‘a person, idea, action, or situation that is considered to have a destructive or corrupting effect or influence.’
Nice idea, though, I would do it slightly different. I don’t like RNG much and you would still need an ICD with even a small chance.
Poison Master; When swapping pets, your pet’s first attack will inflict poison and remove two boons. Your poison damage is increased by 50%.
So that could be two boons per 15s if traited into BM and you could hold your swap to KNOW you can remove two important boons when you need to.
Might be better to use the threshold system so having poison stacks after X (applied by the ranger or the pet) remove a boon.
Still, it’s not very active. You can’t really remove the boon you want, now, if you have to poison them X more times before it happens. Plus, its just another thing the game as to count.
It’s just a thought, however any boon removal/hate is really subject to the developers changing their minds on ranger having no way to interact with opponent’s boon as a design direction.
