Why don’t these create a poison combo field? Fire and ice traps create combo fields, I really don’t see why poison traps shouldn’t do the same.
How would a bunch of snakes create a poison field? Because thats what Viper’s Nest is, a bunch of snakes being released and attacking enemies.

Because this is a fantasy game?

Probably the same way a staff makes meteors rain from the sky. MAGIC!
cuz you’re shootin arrows thru a pit of snakes and the snakes are gettin caught in the arrows, so you’re shootin dead mutilated snakes at an enemy. Quid pro quo, some poison is gettin on the enemy and therefore its a poison field.
Logic’d
Rangers already have plenty of poison fields. It’s too bad all of them are on pets though.

Or if you rolled an Asura they have radiation field
OH I WANT TO PLAY THE LOGIC GAME TOO!
In this case, using logic, Viper’s Next should do a variety of conditions:
TO WIKIPEDIA!
Snake venom consists of many different toxin proteins: these can either have enzymatic activity, which typically assists in digestion, or can be shorter peptides that are used to immobilize prey.
Neurotoxins
Fasciculins: (Poison)
These toxins attack cholinergic neurons (those that use ACh as a transmitter) by destroying acetylcholinesterase (AChE). ACh therefore cannot be broken down and stays in the receptor. This causes tetany, which can lead to death. The toxins have been called fasciculins since after injection into mice, they cause severe, generalized and long-lasting (5-7 h) fasciculations.
Dendrotoxins: (Stun)
Dendrotoxins inhibit neurotransmissions by blocking the exchange of positive and negative ions across the neuronal membrane lead to no nerve impulse, thereby paralysing the nerves.
?-neurotoxins: (immobilize)
This is a large group of toxins, with over 100 postsynaptic neurotoxins having been identified and sequenced. ?-neurotoxins also attack cholinergic neurons. They mimic the shape of the acetylcholine molecule and therefore fit into the receptors ? they block the ACh flow ? feeling of numbness and paralysis.
Phospholipases: (bleed)
Phospholipase is an enzyme that transforms the phospholipid molecule into a lysophospholipid (soap) ==> the new molecule attracts and binds fat and ruptures cell membranes.
Cardiotoxins: (Daze)
Cardiotoxins are components that are specifically toxic to the heart. They bind to particular sites on the surface of muscle cells and cause depolarisation ==> the toxin prevents muscle contraction. These toxins may cause the heart to beat irregularly or stop beating, causing death.
Hemotoxins: (More Bleeds!)
The toxin causes hemolysis, or destruction of red blood cells (erythrocytes).
On a more related note, I agree with the OP. Viper’s Nest should totally create a poison field, and I was always surprised that it never did.
It’s weird isn’t it? IMO, either it’s an oversight or Anet’s logic was that we already get poison fields from some pets, as Quarktastic mentioned, whereas we only get fire and ice fields from traps and torch. I hadn’t thought of pet poison until you mentioned that.
Spider poison field literally lasts for only split second. It might as well not be a field at all.
Viper’s nest should do much more physical dmg.
It’s just there to kitten up high healing enemies, so taking it on a condition spec won’t net you much… but taking it on a power spec, and if it hit for notable dmg… it’d be a pretty solid pressure and ‘my dmg aint goin no where’ sort of ability.
Spider poison field literally lasts for only split second. It might as well not be a field at all.
But it applies nearly 30 seconds of poison when traited with malicious training.

It could apply an hour of poison and it’d be just as worthless.
