Power Ranger with Valkyrie viable?
PvP and WvW seems very viable.
PvE you’ll lack a bit of sustained DPS but still viable.
(and the other 8 elite specs maxed too)
oh my god yes. this is what im running now, it’s not my build at all got it from Heim and blitzkrieg. I adjusted pets and utilities to suit me. signets aren’t the way to go imo. but ive been wrecking with it. should work for wvw frontlining too with gs/s/a and two bears.

I haven’t even optimized it yet. when things settle down, and if no one else does it, i’ll probably do a guide. maybe im being narrowminded now, but I think this is the new hotness as far as power builds go. oh and it’s survivable as kitten.
u can do various things like Lyssa runes, SoS, SoR, u can even take out QZ but I wouldn’t recommend it. brown bear is for condi cleanse and Protect Me, snow owl just eviscerates things. there’s just no need to go marauder/zerker if you time your fury procs well, but know that most of your burst will be coming from GS and the bird. LB is more of a utility weapon in this build.
would anyone be able to maximize the stats for wvw? I think I wanna start gearing up for it.

I run it with signets. Dunno but for maximum fury procs I find Skirmishing better than wilderness survival (the on weapon swap opening strike due to the minor trait fury is VERY handy).
So I thought about if there is any way that this could work and ended up with signet of renewal and lyssa runes to counter conditions. Definitely worse than the WK condi removal but until now it kind of works nicely since the hp already tank a lot of condis and everything on range can basically be avoided with GS skills (quick draw!). Don’t underestimate double hunters shot.
In the end I run GS/LB with signet of renewal/stone/wild. Shout heal and elite obv.
Basically you can go ham with signet of the wild and Strength of the Pack. Really resistant to any CC. When things get to heavy you hunters shot/GS out and reset. Bursting 25k hp is so hard. If often see a whole squad of mesmer/thief/eles trying and taking way to long while my team does objectives.
edit: Well long story short, could have just posted my build: http://intothemists.com/calc/?build=-Jo-g;1sEVu-d2kDV-0;9k23;1YZb;0237136247;4IN06U;1KJG4KJG44q

I don’t like signets simply because they don’t give you fury and all of them have extremely long CD’s. you also have less condi cleansing as a result of not slotting survival skills. but if it works for u, it works.
The cd is really ok with the trait. I didn’t find a build that satisfied me with wilderness survival.
I’d rather have the opening strike whenever I weapon swap than on survival skill usage. Ranger has quite heavy casting times on weapon sets already, I find it much harder to fit stuff like muddy terrain in there.
In PvP, when I don’t run Condi, I run GS/Sword Axe with Valkyrie and of Rage (or Wurm) Edit: Mentionned Build Here *Note that in this calculator, it’s not the updated Valkyrie Stats, so the overall stats are off.
We Heal as One
Either Sic Em or Signet of the Hunt
Lightning Reflexes
Quickening Zephyr
Strength of the Pack
GS – Sigil of Battle + Sigil of Intelligence
Sword/Axe – Sigil of Battle + Sigil of Fire
Pets: Dual Birds – HIGH burst and chill + blind are nice utilities. WIth Sic ’em, omnomnom
Marksmanship 3/3/2
Wilderness Survival 2/3/2
Beastmastery 3/2/2
Shouts grant regen and more swiftness, you get a LOT of fury (when entering combat, on pet swap, chance on GS hit (10s CD, 50% chance to proc for 3s), on Survival SKill use, on Elite skill use 4 times)
REMEMBER TO STOW PETS.
Once you enter combat, with Clarion Bond and Zephyr’s Speed you gain 4 might, quickness, swift and fury when you enter combat; so you gain 2 opening strikes. AND Zephyr’s Speed has no CD so you can swap right away for more quickness and might.
You also have a lot of evade and can put distance really fast (GS 3, Sword 2+2, Lightning Reflexes, and now Super Speed from Quickening Zephyr, and mix that with Owl’s Chill + some shout’s Swiftness)

How do you get fury on wep swap?
I’ll edit that got confused with Skirmishing Minors. Replaced with GS effect

It is possible to run it very efficiently.
Personally i have a pure zerk ranger, and i truly love her, but i have valkyrie on warrior, and honestly, it’s friggin awesome.
Sure, you’ll have a bit less dps. But who cares when you can have a big HP pool, increased dmg from pets, using a juvi jungle stalker to stack more might on you, and trust me, you’ll hit pretty hard while being able to survive better.
She’s got good gear so i aint switching now, but given the choice, i’d go valk on her from the get go.
In PvP, when I don’t run Condi, I run GS/Sword Axe with Valkyrie and of Rage (or Wurm)
great tips and almost identical to my build. I don’t find Sic ’Em necessary, but I do like Protect Me for the low CD, as long as ure ok with slotting a bear. I also use LB instead of s/a, but I would use the latter in wvw. god I wish they buffed WD.

Wow, I’m using almost the same build. Only I’m using Healing Spring for a condi clear burst (Which can be blasted with Clarion Bond) and Sic’ Em for my shout (There are so many thieves out right now. I might go for Protect Me once there are less thieves in every match). I’m also taking Refined Toxins over Shared Anguish to layer some poison over my pet’s spike at the start of the match. I’m using a river drake rather than a bear though. Twice now my drake has nearly one shot an attacking thief with a 7-9K Tail Swipe that they didn’t avoid.
I might try out Heal as One as you are using for pera swiftness and regen. My only issue is that’d take a huge chunk of my condi cleanse away, and I’m not convinced the brown bear’s 1 condition per 20 seconds is enough. How are you managing with that?
2 condis every 20s with Shake It Off, LR and QZ. I haven’t tested drakes yet with BW, i just tend to focus single targets so bird is king there. so far that’s all ive needed. u can add Lyssa to SotP and SoR instead of Protect Me. it’s the playstyle too I think. I kite around a lot, stealth and reposition, CC with point blank/hilt bash/BW. so it’s difficult to get a good condi spike off. I make sure I don’t go in too deep unless my SotP is activated. and all the condi cleanses I use have a very short CD. the build is extremely aggressive, I get new fury all the time to refresh Remorseless so that’s more damage, and if it’s not going well I reset fight.
people seriously need to play around with QZ some more. the superspeed is insanely strong on this prof. with the damage we’re putting out right now, it’s easy to overpower most specs with sheer aggression, CC and burst. QZ helps there. but u can use it defensively too.

I imagine I’m just not as good at avoiding the condi bursts as you. Plus condi rangers who’s burst comes from the auto attack is a pretty big challenge with so little cleansing.
That being said I switched to Heal as One and am really enjoying it. I’m tankier and more mobile, and am providing decent group support. I decided to go with Runes of the Soldier so my shouts cure conditions too, which gives me enough to get by. One thing I noticed is Heal as One may not work with those runes though, because I had 10 stacks of bleeds on me from a ranger that didn’t get cleansed by my shout. And so I died. Might be a bug.
Drakes for me is mostly a preference thing. I like them aesthetically and I like the cleave and the multi-target nature of the F2 when I’m trying to prevent a stomp. And I tend to fight in the fray a lot so having a tanky pet to switch to is a big benefit. My bird is mostly for 1v1 or 2v2 fights.
I agree that Quickening Zephyr is amazing now. The lack of the healing penalty means you can finally take it and not worry about hindering yourself, and the super speed has been a huge help in escaping an unwinnable situation. And as you said this is a very aggressive build, and there isn’t a boon quite as aggressive as quickness.
It’s amazing how much more viable shouts became with the simple addition of Heal as One becoming a shout. You still get the perma regen and swiftness the shout bunker build use to enjoy but don’t have to sacrifice a utility slot for the otherwise useless Guard.
You guys have been awesome. This is a great thread and has been very informative. I’ve only been using condi build which has been supreme. But I’d like to add variety with other builds.
sorry, I just forgot to mention. u can of course also slot runes of soldier to get a bit more cleanse from the heal and elite if ure running shouts.
