Power build - GS vs sword/dagger
Go bare hands. You end up in disadvantage as power anyways, so you might get some fun

The two forms of “power” damage that the ranger can output relies not on good scaling, but fast attacks. For melee that is the 1H sword which is almost as fast as the range option, the shortbow, at just under 2 shots/s. As such, Rangers can’t really burst people down but have pretty good sustain.
Well the lb/GW is pretty darn bursty to be honest. With rapid fire into stealth into maul you can burst down targets pretty well.
But maybe I did not say what i was thinking. some weapons get more from power builds then other. was wondering if sword scaled better..
The problem with sword with pvp, especially if you build zerker is.. Ya, I know, you have nice damage, cripple etc, but.. Once you get on target, you’re screwed. Auto chain will kill you.

Yeah.. I got the gold.. might make up a knights set and try it out and see
Try GS + s/d
Sword imo isn’t as bursty but will catch and out damage GS rather quickly. Auto chain won’t kill you unless you let it. Try dueling someone with s/d. It is difficult to keep up with the movement. Use the chain to disengage 800 units away and use your bow if you don’t use GS.
LR+ sword 2 chain = great separation for kiting
Greatsword is almost entirely used for defense. The only offensive value for the GS is maul, but if you land that 2 times in a row it would be a miracle because it’s so easy to dodge. The sword+dagger is used because it has so many evades, poison, and sword is our highest dps weapon by far. It’s difficult to use though because of the leaping mechanism on #1. It also doesn’t run away as well as the gs.
GS is used for zergs as a support weapon.
S+D is more of a primary weapon for roaming.
GS is better at zerging and racing from one end of a map to the other. I guess, maybe, a front-loaded signet Ranger with Maul. That’s it, though.
Sword auto is stronger, the “Maul” burst is less damage than the sword auto chain, but is very easy to dodge. Poison is insanely good in roaming situations. The dagger cripple is longer than the GS cripple. Once you get good at using Hornet Sting/Monarch Leap, the sword probably better at running away while in combat.
The poison and the built-in evades are the trump cards, though. Both of these things are very important. Hornet Sting also has a lot of synergy with Longbow, since you can press 2, weapon swap, then hit PBS to put about max range between you and your target.
