Preparations - Anyone else really miss them?
For those who didn’t play GW1, preparations were used mostly before a battle and were a type of ‘buff’ to your arrows, for example; kindle arrows set alight your arrows for extra fire damage when they hit a character, ignite arrows made them explode on impact or so.
If you ask me, ArenaNet has missed a really great chance of adding a bit more utility and ‘fun’ to the Ranger class; longbow would be nowhere near as dull if the arrows were exploding for AoE impact, or maybe prepared to set alight foes.
So basically, does anyone else really miss preparations? If so, say how you’d like to add them to the game and if not, say what you’d improve about them for this game!
We do have sharpening stones… but i really do miss my choking gas/apply poison… however they’ve pretty much been given to thieves to kinda hammer home the whole “Thieves can be petless rangers” sort of thing, where rangers in this seem to rely more on the being one with nature and that…
I would say all in all I don’t miss them to much because it was kinda tedious applying them over and over again, but i do wish spirits became what they were… i loved how they just changed the rules and said “DEAL WITH IT!” to the enemy/ anyone ill prepared to fight under their conditions.

Never played GW1 but sounds like it would be a good implementation on the trait system, specifically on Marksman trait line. Maybe a % chance for these effects to trigger or 100% chance for them to trigger at the beginning of the battle or maybe as an alternative to the current Opening Strike.
In theory, I miss them, but in practice, I found it impractical to have to spend 2s to reapply them when they wore off. I usually just brought a skill or two to apply whatever effect I was looking for from the prep.
What I do miss are stances. Between interrupts, CC, and stances, the GW1 ranger was nearly untouchable. That’s probably why we don’t have them anymore…

We kinda still are tbh, however i do miss my Dryders Defense… and my original Whirling Defense, although this new one is nice… I do miss being able to freaking Auto Rez my pet though, my god did i never think i would miss Comfort Animal as much as i do now….
Oh yeah, our previous shouts put these new shouts to shame, just give us Call of Haste, Call of Protection, Ostyughs Cry, and Feral Aggression again and we’ll call it good!

There were only a couple Preparations I ever used in GW. Spirits on the other hand, were great and could really turn the tide if the enemy wasn’t paying attention. I miss having flavorful and useful spirits. And our shouts are pretty good…but they’re all pet based and that makes them less than other profession shouts.

never played gw1, but i have an idea for something like this.
it involves quivers, basically i would like to have quivers equipped in the off-hand slot of the bows, and that they would give a permanent buff similar to these, but a little weaker. bows would have to be nerfed across all classes, but i think it would be nice.
its too bad they released quivers in the form of back items though.
The stances were great, I guess I really miss Ignite Arrows and the Ranger back when you could set arrows alight and actually do some form of burning without using the torch or re-rolling a warrior.
I wish they’d given Rangers more choices in bows for weapons; we had shortbows, longbows and recurve bows and hornbows in GW1, why not have them for GW2 with different skills per? It feels disappointing that Rangers are more naturey than ‘the masters of bows’ as they should be, imo.
No, I don’t miss them at all.
Honestly, the warrior longbow in Guild Wars 2 reminded more of the Guild Wars 1 ranger than the ranger itself. I dont know what direction they were trying to take with many of The GW2 ranger skills but it seems like they just gave up halfway.I also miss ranger preperations somewhat. Also, useful spirits. How I miss useful spirits. Maybe someday Guild Wars 2 rangers will be fixed and play more like their counterparts in the first game.
