Hi. I think I’ve got a bug because my counterattack skill just rarely knock back foes. I’ve seen a Youtube video where a ranger who was performing a counterattack kicked foes back and I make just a swing with the sword. It’s a bit disappointing. What’s the problem? How do your counterattack work? Please, help me!
EDIT: Ok, I found out that only female rangers are performing a kick (which is disappointing too, because a kick in the face is just awesome). But anyway I don’t push enemies back! I don’t move while waiting for an attack, so what’s the matters? (I mean only melee attacks)

Working as intended. You activate the block, holding the sword at an angle accross your body. You can then activate the skill again to throw your sword at the enemy, dealing some damage and inflicting cripple.
While blocking, if you are hit by melee then you “counterattack” with the kick.
If you don’t get hit by melee then you don’t.
Watch out so that you don’t interrupt it by moving

The OP is talking about that most of the time, Counterattack only knocks the foe down as opposed to knockback.
I personally would like to see it changed to knockdown because I find knockbacks rather annoying, but there are other stuff I would like to be done way before this.

I agree the knockdown is far better, especially when maul is on CD etc. Its also great for pet to get a couple of free hits

It’s awful as melee protection, unless in 1v1/1v2… I never use it in melee, unless my health is low, we are on a burst (thus unmoving), and my heal is almost up… (so many if’s that it really is close to never :p)

I hate when the mesmer greatsword clone spins by you, activating the knockback part of the attack. Aaaaaand then most of the whirl damage get applied to you.
I wish that the block lasted until the kick was performed. Or add in an evade.
It is just poor design, the attack animation is so slow that a player can hit you in melee while strafing around you and actually get behind your counterattack. The skill is actually a self stun.

Agreed, the distance covered by some gap closers is just insane. At most they should all vary between 450-600 in my opinion. But 900-1200 is just ridiculous (and then there’s Long Reach at 1500 range).
