Does anyone else seem to occasionally not receive the quickness on pet swap buff? I’ve noticed this a few times, swapping birds. I doubt it’s at all tied to the actual pet, hawk and eagle just happen to be my go-to pets at the moment.
I only noticed that you have to activate quickness (swap pet or QZ) 1st then rez or finish, if you do it in the opposite way, you are just wasting your quickness coz it won’t apply.
I use it allllll the time and never had a problem, but I haven’t used birds for a while now so I don’t know if there’s any issue with those particular pets.
I believe the quickness boost is only applied if you are in combat, could be wrong though that is just what I have observed.
I notice something like this with shortbow+quickness; the shortbow doesn’t fire for some reason.
It happens from time to time, I just chock it up to the ocean of bugs that have been with the ranger since the start.

That is because shortbow+quickness has been broken since the completly unfair nerf to attack speed.
Sorry I mean ANIMATION FIX, no nerf here.
Anet still hasn’t even acknowledged it. And we all seem to have forgotten about the whole horrible patch.
You have to be in-combat to receive quickness from pet swapping.
No problems here…

You are right, I forgot pointing this out. Quickening Zephyr will grant quickness even if you are out of combat, let’s say, you wanna harvest a node fast, you pop QZ, and it you do it twice as fast. But quickness from swapping pets only works if you are in combat!
Hi, did u notice that activating QZ or swap pets during finishing downed player, dont affect finishing speed ? i dont know where exactly this change happened but a few weeks ago, when i activate QZ while finishing, i do it twice faster. Now i have to activate it before finishing. Ressurection is affected by QZ or swap even during casting so its ok, but finishing is bugged i think.
I have noticed this as well. Pet swap sometimes does not grant the zepher speed. I think it has to be used in combat for it to work, which is totally unfair because the description clearly states: “grants 2 seconds of quickness upon pet swap”. Mentions nothing about having to be in combat!!!
This must be a bug or Anet is trolling us.
It only works in combat. Sure, the tool tip is vague but regardless, its still one of the most powerful 5 point traits in the whole game. Any Ranger who doesn’t have it is questionable at best. It outclasses most Grandmaster tier 30 point traits without question.

Well said. And I haven’t had any problems with it working while in-combat.

Same here. In-combat, it works 100% of the time. And to my original point again: pet swapping is something that every good Ranger should be doing every 20 seconds regardless. The fact that you can get a Barrage off in 2 seconds if you time it right is just icing on the cake.
Not same here.
I play more eb jp than probably any of you and i always use swapping for finishing off.
1 out of 10 times it doesn’t work, yes, i look at the icons, and no, theres no buff.
It’s kinda annoying because you notice very fast after playing Ranger for a while.
Only new actions will be affected by quickness. If you use quickness while doing an action, the action won’t be affected.

That’s not true for all things. Rapid fire and Barrage still get boosts from ZS if swapped mid cast. Reviving also works mid action. The only one that doesn’t seem to work mid cast is stomping. Precasting it or QZ before a stomp does lead to a speedy stomp.

I shouldn’t have said “Action”. Each arrow in rapid fire is considered as an “action”, each heal tick when ressing is considered as an action, but stomp has no ticks; it’s just one whole action.
If the animation of your character shooting an arrow has already been started at the time you used QZ, the animation won’t become any faster. The next arrow will.
I apologize for using the “Action” term, couldn’t find the right word.
This is kinda confusing. I really don’t understand why it just isn’t consistent with the traits description. Give us 2 second quickness whenever we swap pets regardless of what we were doing. Either that or change the description to match!!!

Can’t really see the problem. It DOES give us 2 seconds of quickness.

No, not always. You have to be combat for it to work I believe. But it’s hard to tell what the exact specification are for it to activate because they don’t tell us!

You have to be in combat. It works 100% of the time while not in combat, and 0% of the time when out of combat.

It always works in combat. If you’re confused about the “not working while stomping” then that’s an issue with the mechanics of quickness itself, not with the trait or its effects.
