Protect me or guard to replace SoS?
They serve such different purposes, so I’d say Guard > SoS and Protect Me over a glyph or some other stun breaker. Personally I used LR, Guard (was using for swaftness/regen/stealth taunt), and QZ…but now my bar might look like LR, Guard, Protect Me.
Maybe bears will make a comeback to absorb the Guard :P
I don’t think, protect me will be able to replace SoS, it can only replace a stun breaker. 1st because the taunt is applied after you got hit, 2nd because there is so much stab and attacks with build-in defense that the taunt won’t do anyhing very often.
Guard can be very strong and a replacment for SoS, but only with tanky pets.
I haven’t tried any PvP yet, but I think guard will be a pet explosion button without SoS, so people may try some weird builds like that. Is there anyway to force a bear to use it’s invulnerability? Will it automatically when it starts taking huge damage from guard?
I’m not even sure, if SoS or the bear’s invuln prevent the dmg from guard. The smokescale definitely takes dmg in it’s smoke field.
Edit: Tested it, SoS prevents the dmg.
Edit2: Same with bear’s invuln. They use it only if they are at very low hp.

If you plan on using protect me after the update i’d use that with Beastmastery as Standard its too good to pass up if you have timbre too , if you also play the druid trait set up as a condi/healer support druid.
you can just make the Protect me a team damage reduction without risking the pet too much or risking pet insta death.
just remember Guard is more for might stacking pets using the stealth+protection to keep it alive longer to stack up might goes perfect with smokescales and power boon builds or Knights boon builds / heal as one themed builds. (though generaly this is now more selfish than Protect me going this route.)
Just FYI: Guard no longer gives the pet stealth. But this is also a plus, if you pet tank, because using it in combat doesn’t cause aggro to go straight to you.
Overall, I’m not loving Protect Me . . . but Guard is another story.
i was playing around of Guard on the smokescale for a while and man its a HUGE might sustain if you trigger guard after its Assualt attack , the amount of hp it has realy realy obsorbs a lot for the team too.
half way through the guard duration use heal as one to reapply 12seconds of might to the smokescale (if you have nature magic trait line)
after a few rounds of heal as one and 1 good Guard attempt im at 20-25might for a good 8-12seconds its pretty much a 60% upkeep .
So far the only reason to use protect me is if you need a quick Stun break+ protective CC (the fact it effects allies too is just a bonus because if you do use it as a personal stunbreaker the teams going to loose out if a Aoe Stun hits) (this is in a pvp sense)
for WvW though ! do it go protect me with beastmastery keep the taunt rolling and pumping out the AoE stunbreak as often as pos comboed with the smokescale it still makes a good might provider too and stealth too if you have a melee set or even in addition to SoTP with LB)
Depends on “how” you want to replace SoS.
Guard indeed blows the pet in a teamfight. In seconds. So if you want to replace SoS with guard you’ll need a bear for that.
Protect Me can be a way to mitigate damage, is a stunbreak … But most importantly it’s a utility made to slap back.
Overall I had much more success with Guard as a form of damage mitigation than Protect Me. Especially because it stacks with protection. So if you already run NM protective ward or such – you’ll get an incredible damage soak for the duration.
I had a build that made me a diamond skin ele to direct damage for 6 seconds with guard (can be a replacement for SoS). People found it lacking in might even though it had access to 25 might as other builds but… Dunno, maybe if you specify what you are looking for I’ll be able to help you.
