Protect me or....????
which utility you find most useful of “Protect me” and “Lightning reflexes”?
clearly, thats situational, but id say lightning reflexes if you skirmish and protect me if your just sitting back nuking.
lightning reflexes gives vigor, a second of damage immunity from evade, distance, and the vigor synergies with passive traits like protection on dodge.
protect me will often kill your pet before you can swap, for 2-4 seconds of invulnerability pet vitality depending (dont count on your pet living through 6 seconds of you face-tanking), and leaves you with a dead pet. this is a terrible situation if you are engaging someone, but not really bad if youre in a zerg or shooting from a wall.
Celestial Avatar is like an old man: Takes forever to get up and is spent in 4 seconds
Protect Me oftentimes gets your pet killed within two to three seconds, even against a single opponent. If pets weren’t this squishy I would consider using it, but as it is right now, Lightning Reflexes is far better by miles, for the reasons Raven provided.
It depends on what you are going to use the skills for.
“Protect Me” I would say is the better defensive skill, and Lightning Reflexes is the better offensive skill. If you need a skill that gives you a bit of extra time when you are at very low health, then hitting pet switch (to a bear, not something with low life like a feline) and pressing “Protect Me”, is a great solution for giving you a bit more survivability. Lightning Reflexes is a lot better for staying on your toes, when you want to get some distance from your foe, but while still being able to deal some damage.
But it also depends a bit on how you are traited. If you don’t have any points in Wilderness Survival or Beastmastery at all, then Lightning Reflexes might be a better defensive skill, because you won’t have Natural Vigor (increases endurance regeneration by 50%), and your pet won’t be as strong.

if you’re trying to be a ranger that can face tank a ton of damage (toughness, regen, invulns), then protect me is valuable (esp with a tanky pet). but as stated earlier, more often than not it ends up with a dead pet (bad for your bottom line), and well before you realized the 6 seconds of protection.
IMO, for most ranger builds, its better to avoid damage than to mitigate it, both thru positioning and evades, and as such, the evade / stun break / gap creator combo is generally the stronger option..,.
but keep in mind it will likely take you off the node. if you’re trying to be a node holder. some combo of SoS and protect me, maybe GS/LB, and lotsa toughness/healing would be hard to take down
