Protection Burn BM Spirit Ranger
Thats pretty much what i used in this vid:

Spirits aren’t bad but they just don’t compare with Bm or trapper unless your rolling with a group. Also you don’t want to stack too much burning, if you have 100% uptime than anything more is a waste unless people are spamming condi removal. Remember, sun spirit will proc burning for both you and your pet.
I see. Thanks for the feedback!
I’ve never really liked trap rangers though. Generally they need 30Skirmishing and it just costs too much.
Also, I’ve never gotten round to understand things like Torch5
Damage (8x): 288
Burning (1.5sec) : 4,926 damage
Duration: 8 sec
So its an 8 second fire field that pulses a 288 damage every second while dealing burning damage. So exactly how much burning damage are you getting? And what does “Burning (1.5sec) : 4,926 damage” mean?
Edit: Actually nvm. I think I understand now. I don’t think I’ll need the sun spirit and flame trap for 100% burning uptime. Sigh~ was trying to find a good build that actually uses spirits =/

Yeah torch with offhand training and condition duration food is plenty of burning, throw torch alone is an 8 second burn on a 12 second cooldown. What flame trap and sun spirit do is it allows you to use weapon combos that don’t have torch and still get burning.
Adding to the compilation thread!

I always thought frost spirit and storm spirit could work well with a beastmaster bunker build. Anything to say about that, guys? Although in this build the user likely wants sub spirit, like you said, for the blind and the burns.

Nugget did one about a month ago. Info below.
See you in Tyria.

So this made me curious about the activation damage of storm spirit. I have two lvl 80 rangers and one of them is a berserker build. Wanted to see if the storm spirit could be used as a massive damage trap with berserker build 8D So I decided to test it out.
The storm spirit does around 1100-1200 damage and does not scale to your attack stat (tested with 3300 attack and 2300 attack). And even with warhorn buff, the storm spirit never crits.
My opinion on the storm spirit? Don’t use it. The swiftness buff only activates when you are in combat and the 1100-1200 damage every 20 seconds (and its pretty hard to land in actual combat)… just sucks
On a side note. I just realised I can’t use any spirit sub-skill builds efficiently coz I’m colorblind. I have trouble differentiating between the spirits (Sun&Stone, Frost&Storm) and I keep activating the wrong spirits. FREAKING ADD COLORBLIND ASSIST ANET
EDIT:
So I decided to test condition duration of stone, frost, and sun spirit. The condition duration are affected by you stat. Probably useful for stone and frost, but I wouldnt boost my condition duration for sun spirit alone since 0.5 extra second of blind will get you no where.

I think I have seen storm spirit crit in the mists. Can anyone verify?
I guess the reason I would try storm spirit / fortifying bond would be to keep swiftness on the pet, since usually the obstacle to good K/D is whether you can control and/or pet speed is greater than enemy speed. It might not be optimal for some situations but it just seems like it makes sense. I don’t know though, I haven’t really tried it. It might be good for roaming since you can tag ambients and basically keep swiftness up.
Maybe it’s better with bows so the pet can catch the target and the ranger can keep a gap with the various skills that allow the ranger to basically negate gap closers and/or create gaps (LR, hornet’s sting, quickshot, swoop).
Just a thought.

I could see frost+stone working if its the power version. Frost spirit is probably the best for groups since most people run power builds, but you would need the proc chance trait for it to be worth it.
Im not to keen on storm spirit. Swiftness just isn’t good enough considering spirits can be killed. Signet of the hunt already provides a perma boost to you and your pet, and groups get perma swiftness easily from eles/guardians/warriors.
I’ve always thought spirits were no good~ but I’ve been giving them the benefit of the doubt which is why I’ve been experimenting with them. They seem alright, but our survival skills, traps, and signets are far better. But yea, storm spirit is just awful, they really need to rework the spirits and bring them up to par with other utility skills
