Soooo after I asked for the build in this forum I started the ranger and I have to admit it’s alot of fun (aslong as you don’t use bearbow). But for now I’ve got a few questions:

• My pet kitty with the might buff seems to be bugged. If you run with your pet and suddenly stay still, the pet will become slow and moves to it’s “perfect position” next to you. If I cast F2 while the pet moves slow, it goes on CD but has no effect. Any tips?

• Then about the lizard pets with the great F2 bouncing burst skill. Sometimes they shoot anywhere when hitting F2, but not to the target I marked. Do I allways have to “turn it around” with F1 first!?

• Weapons. I really love the Axe offhand. It’s ridiculous op <3, especially Skill 4. But I’ve only seen (if I see a ranger once not useing bearbow …) Axe/Axe and Sword/Horn. But this seems to be strange. I mean Axe mainhand is ranged and Axe offhand is melee. I use Sword/Axe and Axe/Horn. Especially for Sword 2 + Axe 4. But why are there so many double Axes? Just for the style??

• Frost Spirit seems to be very strong and a huge adventage for the whole party. But the truth is that this only is correct because it seems to bug, right? It has no 10 sec CD, with wich it would be laughtable up. So do I play with a strong bugged skill or is it intended to be like this? Other spirits have the 10 sec CD tough.

1st point: Yeah. Jungle Stalker’s F2 will usually bug out usually when it’s moving. Wait for it be idle before using F2.

2nd point: Yep. Safest way to ensure it hits is F1 the target, let it get 1 attack in and then use F2.

3rd point: I don’t come across many Axe/Axe Rangers and the ones that I have also used a Shortbow on the other set so I’m not sure what to tell you here. Might be some sort of WvW build they’re using in Dungeons. Ranger class seems to be synonymous with players that like to use WvW builds in dungeons.

4th point: Keep playing with Frost Spirit. The instant that Anet makes Frost Spirit “unbugged” with a 10-second ICD is the day the Ranger class for Dungeons can be put to rest forever.

Anyone has seen a MH axe ranger in dungeons? It’s surprisingly strong tbh. The aa hits quite hard and allows a OH that is quite useful.

Just adding: regarding the Jungle Stalker Might buff, it has a relatively short range so you need to stand quite close to your kitty to get it.

Regarding your second question, the problem with all F2 pet attacks is that they do not interrupt what they are doing so there is usually a delay before the attack kicks in, except for some who have AoE frost attacks (some lizard and some kitty iirc). You need to experiment a bit, but as Wondrouswall say, look where your pet is at, and if it is already hitting something then spam F2 and cross your fingers. F2 is buggy overall and many people are quite frustrated that over one year after release it is still as bad.

Finally, Axe off-hand: yes it is amazingly good. My default weapon combo for PVE, particularly dungeons, is Sword/Horn and Sword/Axe (i.e. I leave my second main hand empty and use the same sword for both).

Axe 5 is even more OP than Axe 4: not only does it deflect range attacks, it also REFLECTS them. But the tooltip is wrong and says “deflect” only (unless they fixed it recently). So you can use Ranger Axe 5 to great effect on certain bosses fights in Dungeons/Fractals, or to play with Karkas.

Probably meant to operate without an ICD. It at least has always lacked one and as a flat damage boost it automatically scales between weapons/classes builds at it’s default settings.

Ok I’m getting tired of this T_T my stupid cat almost never does it’s F2! Only if i wait next to it and do nothing I can be sure it works. But wtf – shall I just stay and wait if I engage the enemy!?!? Help me plz, how does this skill not work????

Also, are there any uses for the longbow? It seems like the shortbow is simply stronger since you are anyway never at 900+ range, are you? And the longbows damage seems to be very weak at already medium range… o..o

Enjoy? With that amount cynicism in that word I just can smile back at you, thinking “Challenge accepted”. Once I have discovered the exact mechanics for those braindeath creatures I shall be able to control them perfectly. And what then? Learn how the pets work, learn how the skills work, keep all the weapons ready, become a good ranger – yea, I’m definitly gonna enjoy this. Everyone gasps when a ranger arrives without a bear nor a sb. :P Hi-la-rous

Well there are 2 ways to use the pet’s skill and actually make it work (with a good chance of it to work* xD)
1) use it when the pet is standing still.
2) click F2 like crazy in the middle of the fight (not at the beginning). At the beginning of the fight the pet usually has a priority on 1 of its regular skills so your active skill will be interrupted by the pet.

If the pet is in action, generally, the best way I have found is to F3 and then F2. For drakes however, it does seem that you have to “aim” them with F1.

Of course, I play with my pet on passive, so I am always hitting F1, so just one more time to be hitting F1.

F3 into F2 or even F3 to F1 can be a major way to control your pet, as F3 essentially “resets” them, clearing their queue (I believe) and cancelling their current pathing system. Toggling F3 and F1 has helped me keep my pet on target in PvP more times than I can count, since players get into the habit of circle strafing the pet, which works annoyingly well.

Well I know how it works now. While your pet is running next to you it generates permanently waypoints wich 90% of the time overwrite the F2 buff order. However if you stay still F2 will be cast. Also if you hit F1 and then F2 it will also allways work, either interrupting the movement or after the next basic attack.

I really love the ranger now, it’s such a great class! <3 Totally underestimated him. However this only makes my hate against Bearbows bigger, want them to kick even mroe
