Yes, you are reading that right, guyz. A spirit Ranger.

For some reason, I found out that the spirit Ranger is not that bad in particular. Truth be told, it’s pretty strong in the game-style I play.
The magic is in using the spirit actives … As much as you can.
You see, the Spirit Body endures even after death for 10 seconds. Leaving the actual CD without buffs at only 7 seconds.

And yes, Daze for 3 seconds and 16 stacks of burning is pretty respectful. It has decent condi clear and a (clunky) Revive Button.

Pros:
~ very high damage (both Direct and Condi)
~ good condi cleanse (AoE)
~ good damage mitigation and team support

Cons:
~ lacks ways to recover fast
~ vulnerable to stealth>bursts
~ Spirit abilities have delay (potential out of range problem / interrupt)

EDIT: So far my most powerful bunker build. No kidding.

I can’t help but think this is a bug, even though it’s not op in anyway.

It has been that way ever since the Spirits were created and designed. It’s intentional. It still has the internal cooldown after all.
Plus, it has been nerfed with the active ability CD postponing the CD of the spirit.

Still effective, though.

Since the rune is still broken for AoE team support (I have no idea how didn’t see that… I didn’t test it straight. It’s easily possible that the cleanses that I thought were mine were someone’s else)
So while I am waiting for the fix, I’m trying other builds as well. Swaying away the dust of spirits made a pleasant surprise for me.

Biggest problem I’ve had is with the insane amount of mesmers and DD ele + cele sig necros…. You simply are not going to beat a half decent mesmer… can’t handle the burst out of no where…

No chance at ALL against a good cele ele DD

necros just transfer the freaking condis back to me and they have too much hp lol.

I’m usually lucky against the Mesmer burst and Necro transfers with my evades. I basically use every Quick Draw for the Evade.

No one can really stand against their burst. I found that I have better chances of evading them than others. But yes, the chances of survival drop drastically if you fail to dodge their full burst.

As it is, it has flaws just as any other build out there. But this one has potential in point holding, so why not add it here? Other builds are already listed.

I might try spirits now actually as the damage seems to have toned down since the tournament started.

Either the mezmer nerf has had a bigger impact than expected, fire got a stealth nerf somewhere, or everyone has started traiting more defense all of a sudden.

I have tested your build and it was pretty much fun in hotjoin and also in some unranked matches. Its awesome on bigger points like graveyard on foefire and reminds me a bit of turret engi in his way of playing it. The different is, that you have to choose, if you destroy your spirit or let them live, but this depends on the situation. Groupfights to let them live, small-scale fights to shatter them instantly. The burning burst is awesome and it is in a league with the burstburning guard.

Survivability comes from the weaponset with many dodges, but this is something we knew already from condiranger, who makes use of it for a long time. This makes it really comfortable for me, who is used to play condiranger most of the time.

My biggest problem was the lack of condiremove and reliable stunbreakers. The elitespirit is nice, but its to slow in providing condiremove or the ability to ressing other people. Also i dont get the stability when i need it.

The healingspring is for now really broken. If you got time, you can lay down from two to four springs and make a huge waterfield, but when did you really get them time in combatsituations. Maybe its good, if you can coordinate it with explofinishers from your team to get a huge healing burst. Without this, the amount of healing is too small and the fact, that you have to lay down the healingspring, go out of it and then reenter it to get the healing is the biggest issue.

The best idea, that you bring with this build, is that you shatter the spirits instantly. If iam right you choose rune of pirate and the pet to get three minions, who also get the buff from sunspirit in 1v1 fights. This would make only with the passive 8 burning, 11 with active and16 with all torchskills. Otherwise you dont get any use of these minions, if you fight in teamfights since the passive buff is limited to five people. Due to its i dropped them and used wolf again. Fear can be a much stronger support in teamfights to prevent incoming damage, to stop stomps on your teammates and resses on your opponents.

In the end, i have combined the sunspirit, with your idea of using him more active, in my actual build. Its suites very well and the results in 1v1, 1v2 and large teamfights were very good. Sunspirits buff makes the teamburst and also your own condiburst even stronger. The bird is necassary against eles with diamond skin. Thanks for your thoughts and your build. Even if its just make me change only one skill and one trait, it makes a huge different and improved my build alot.

And before you mentioned it. The spirittrait is important also for one spirit! You need the increased buffrange and more than that the doubled spirit hp to get some use of the active. Otherwise the spirit would die too fast.

It always pleases me when my insight helps our community.

As I keep saying – it’s only for the better when people change and adapt the build. Everyone has own game-style and preferences and it also helps with some other ideas that might show up for further improvement.

You were correct about all the points of the build. I’m usually bunkering a point, so my job is to hold enemies for as long as possible till some of my team comes. Or win it straight.

If you intend to go into mid point team-fights, you should definitely take Rune of the Forge instead of Pirate – pirate is for solo point holding.

I would change the rune.

I would go elementalist and change one of the geomancy sigils for hydromancy :-)
